Yes, the manga sure will answer all questions, and I have a feeling that it will also take the plot a bit different - though I really hope that Minekura will keep the "Sanzo-wanders-off-alone" part, and his troubles of hanging out with Hazel.

I hope she keeps Sanzo on his own too. I think that was the best part of the whole ending and it had such potential. It seemed wasted when they rushed to finish the story.

You know, the more I read of the original Saiyuki (Journey to the West), the more I begin to wonder about a few things. Monkey and Sanzang regularly got into fights with each other and Sanzang's nasty temper (whoever said that that monk was any different from our Sanzo should really read the novels) usually took care for Monkey being kicked out. Of course, it always ended with the monk getting into trouble and more often then not, he ended up stripped butt-naked in some demon cave (Oi, Minekura-sama, there's something for you to draw for our Sanzo! ). Anyway, thing is that Kanzeon had more than just a bit to do with all the attacks on the Happy Group of Pilgrims. And seeing how she enjoys entertainment, I wonder how much sHe's involved with Nii.

What an interesting thought. Nii involved with Kanzeon. For her entertainment? Their mutual entertainment? He's just so much more than he seems to be. It really makes you wonder about him. One thing that is frustrating about Manga as opposed to a book. The answers come out so slowly, sometimes with only hints. A book, they are usually all there in the volume. or the next one, not years down the road.
Was Kanzeon a hir in the original, or was that something Minekura-sama changed? Poor butt-naked Sanzo. You said you were getting evil ideas for them from reading the original legend.

Well, I think that the biggest problem with Saiyuki being a manga is that it's published only a few pages at a time by the publisher. If you had it just in the 'book' format we get here in the west, the story would be told faster. Then again, you can only cover that much with a drawing, even if you have explanations with it. Kanzeon (or rather, Kannon), is an interesting case of history. Originally, sHe was two different deities - a male and a female one. Later on, they were merged into one deity, which usually had female attributes. To make her a hermaphrodite is not "common procedure", but I like that Minekura-sama respected both original deities that way. And yes, the novel give me more ideas than I can handle, and I also begin to see the pattern in which Minekura rewrote the story. There will be lots of suffering ahead, that much is for sure. In the novel, by the time they finally reach India, the 'buddhas' there try to cheat them out of their hard earned scriptures, and quite a huge fight ensued. Apart from that, the novel inspires me to try the one or other story twist. Nii and Kanzeon, yes that should be interesting to say the least. i.e. if Nii really is the reincarnation of Litouten. The possibilities are immense.

The reincarnation of Litouten? Oh boy, that would make so much sense and make him REALLY dangerous for our foursome. It's Thursday, and I hate that there will be nothing to download tomorrow. The first time in almost a year.

Try here: home.eol.ca/~basara/saiyuuki/Go to the bottom of the page. It's by no means complete, though. BTW... I ran into a fun little thing concerning the "husband" think between Tenpou and Kenren. In Samurai 7, one of the Samurai mentions that he has to meet his 'spouse (married partner)'. The other character promptly assumes that he must be referring to a wife, and is embarrased to find out that the term is used for brothers in arms, too... without any 'marriage'. Considering the portrayal of the two characters in Gaiden, that would make a lot more sense... i.e. since there is no other sexual reference insult added by any of the other characters. I would have to check back if they indeed use the same word. Okay... Long time, no answer to this, BUT I found the answer now (which made me laugh REAL hard). Tenpou is Kenren's *nyou bou" which translates as 'right-hand man' or 'aid/assistant', but also as 'wife'. So, it's bound to lead to... jokes.

DVD quality and translations. I haven't seen this episode for quite a while and it was actually fun to watch it again. It's hard to believe it has been almost one year since it first aired. I especially enjoyed the lyrics to the opening song. They fit Saiyuki very well. I hope episode two won't take very long. I'm already dying to see Hakkai's day off and where Zakaru hypnotizes them. ;D Nope, I'm never satisfied. ;D

Me, being the rabid Kougaiji fan that I am, can hardly wait to see the 'Against the Stream' arc with decent subtitles at last. Then I can really look forward to the whole Hazel arc. *twitches with anticipation* I mean, the subs on the Hong Kong DVDs got me through but they are pretty shoddy... Ani-Kraze is one of my fave subbers so I know they will be good. Heh! Found this thread last night when I was going to let people know the new ep was up but you beat me to it OptiMoose. Still, I had a good and very enjoyable read of the entire thread this morning. I kinda wish I had been looking more on the board when the final few eps of Gunlock were airing. Oh well. Zell

Of course, at the rate Ani-Kraze is going, the professional subs will be out by then. (I will not complain...I will not complain. Instead I will do the happy dance that a new episode if finally out.) Clicked on your link, but it didn't work for me. So here is the Baka-Updates page for anyone who needs it. www.baka-updates.com/groups.php?title=Anime-Kraze

Well, after almost exactly 2 months Ani-Kraze had finally released Saiyuki RELOAD Gunlock 7, The Cursed Backgammon Game. I'm really happy that they are still subbing it, since it is licensed, but I am also REALLY dying to see some of the later episodes. Am so looking forward to Sanzo and Lirin's encounter, as well as Hakkai's day off and to finally understand more of Hazel. Guessing at what was happening was fun, but knowing is just so satisfying. www.baka-updates.com/search.php?keyword=Saiyuki%20Reload%20Gunlock&type=title

Thanks to someone posting the Hong Kong DVD subs , I got to watch episode 20 of Gunlock again. I had forgotten how hurt sounding and looking Hakkai had been when Sanzo drove the three of them away from him. Goku was disappointed, Gojyo royally angry, but Hakkai seemed so hurt by Sanzo's actions. I loved how they turned it into a race later to beat Sanzo to the west, then they decide to go back to him and blame him for all their problems and encounters with the youkai.
I am still downloading each episode as Anikraze does them because some of the translations in the HK DVDs leave much to be desired, but they still add understanding to the episodes.
