Just watched the episode... not sure wether I should laugh or cry. Seeing Sanzo's gang like that, I think that they really didn't know... but they will forgive him, eventually. She will have to apologize, methinks. And Sanzo... LOL! I won't say 'deserved punishment', but you could tell that he wished to be back with his 'usual' companions. I absolutely loved the faces he pulled all the time... it was startling to see him so helpless, though. I wonder why he didn't use the sutra, but only relied on his gun. Nii is back, and that hypnotism demon! Uh-oh... I'm so looking forward for the next episode!

OptiMoose- Where do you download your episodes? The site I usually get them from hasn't put them up yet, and I don't want to miss another episode. I've already missing numbers 12 and 18.
Do you think Sanzo didn't use the Sutra to make himself appear a little more helpless to Hazel, so he would underestimate him and his abilities at a later time?

I usually get my raws here: www.l33t-raws.com/bt/Missing episodes: If you have IRC, I can DCC you the missing eps. As for the sutra, I'm not sure. Maybe he just didn't have enough time to chant. And hasn't Hazel already seen the power of the sutra? But it's possible that he didn't want to give away his full potential. If he calculated that Hazel would have Gato protect him, and all... I'm really divided on what to think. I wouldn't put it beyond Sanzo to completely fool Hazel (and everyone else including the viewer)... But somehow I have this gut feeling that he bit off more than he can swallow, and that he will be more than happy if the rest of his gang come to safe his precious hide in the end. And he must have taken his friends' reactions into account, too (given that they don't all play). He would have to be 100% sure that the three will come back for him once they think he has cooled off and flushed whatever is bugging him out of his system. But with all that thinking he did in the past few eps, I think his plan is watertight... only, a plan is one thing, dealing with the actual emotions involved while pulling through his plan is a different thing.

Thanks for the link, it's downloading. I usually get my raws from this group too, but through another site, not their own. I've got a good download speed of ~ 70 kb/s and it'll be done in 45 minutes.
Hazel saw the power of the Sutra only one time, I think, but Nii also told Hazel about it too. I don't know what Nii told him about Sanzo and the Sutra. I tend to agree, Sanzo may have bitten off more than he can chew, but has HE ever so badly misjudged an opponents' abilities? And you said in episode 20, he suspects who is behind Hazel, so maybe it is an act. The evidence points both ways. A good script to keep us guessing. Even if he does know what he is doing, he will most definately need the calvary to rescue him.
I'll check about the IRC with my son tomorrow. It's time for bed, I have to get up in two hours. More later.
That was the fastest download I've ever had, slightly under 48 minutes. Well, I'm off to watch it.

Sanzo tends to get careless when he thinks he has an advantage. It has been shown numerous times during the manga and anime. What surprised me was that he actually stumbled and fell - in a way that (unless he did it on purpose) tells me that he was completely elsewhere with his thoughts. Which is another problem... how often do you have Sanzo caught up in some train of thought and taken by surprise? Sanzo's his own worst enemy, really. Oh, something I found amusing was how thegang kept Sanzo's seat free. I would've thought that at least Gojyo would claim the place, but no, he's still sharing the back row with his Goku And seeing Hakkai laugh like that was good to see... It's no comparision to when Gojyo left the group. Oi. *swats plot bunny*

Just watched the episode, and yes, in my opinion, Sanzo is trying too hard to look weaker than he is. He had more than enough time to use the Sutra while Gato shot the Youkai in front of him. Sanzo trip that way? A person who can out maneuver Goku in Seitan Taisei form, even when he's poisoned, tripping in such a manner? Not our Sanzo. He definately wants them to underestimate him. He was trying to leave quite a trail of cigarrettes, but Gato sure took care of that. Why is it that Sanzo has such an unlimited supply of cigarrettes, unless the plot calls for him to run out? Can't wait, can't wait for more...
We noticed about the empty seat too. Old habits are hard to break, huh? I, too would have expected Gojyo to move up front. The first time I heard Hakkai laugh was scary. This time he actually sounded happy,

Oh, I can very well see him tripping like any normal person. If he's sufficiently distracted. We're talking about Sanzo who got captured unaware by the spider demon woman. Who was unable to evade the poisoned fingernails of the scorpio demon. Who was pushed off a cliff by an attacking demon while arguing with Gojyo. Who did not even realize that the fog on the way to Kami's castle was not natural until Hakkai pointed it out to him. I think I could name more incidents here where he got himself distracted and got kicked in the butt. I think that at least part of it was his plan, to lure Hazel into safety. But I doubt that he intended to get injured like that. The unconsciousness wasn't faked, at least (seeing how everything was animated), and I somewhat doubt he'd go as far as to be completely at Hazel's merci just to pretend he's weak. Sanzo's unlimited supply also includes tons of ammu. No wonder that Gojyo complained about him being havier than he locked when he had to pull him up from the cliff... I wonder how long it takes until Sanzo runs out of cigs this time... by the number of stumps Gato picked, he must've gone through at least four packs of smokewear by now. It would make sense if he has some 'inner' pockets sewn into the arm pieces of the robe... But I guess we will never find out unless we capture 'Mom' and tickle it out of her. Sanzo's gang really seems to enjoy being without him. Sanzo must really grovel this time for them to forgive him. I want the next episode, now! ;D

Sanzo a normal person? Bite your tongue. We also joke about his seemingly unlimited ammo supply. Does the gun take normal ammo, or is it special? Always wondered about that. Is it the gun that banishes the demons, or is it the ammo? Is that information covered anywhere?
It would be a lot more fun to tickle the information out of Sanzo. (Did I really type that?) Well, it would be fun if we lived through it. He's not real, He's not real...but I can wish. Fangirl (woman) insanity strikes.
Ok, I'll give you that our Sanzo can be distracted and be a little slow on the uptake, at times.
No, his being unconcious didn't seem faked. And you could tell he was in quite a bit of pain when he came to. My husband laughed at his reaction to the food (medicine?) that Gato gave him when he came to. Not up to his usual standards. He might not be too worried about them physically hurting him. I doubt Hazel could use the Sutra, so he needs Sanzo to co-operate and I'm worried Nii will provide Hazel with the means, that Youkai that can hypnotize people. Of course, Nii should be able to use the Sutra. Is any of this covered in the current Gunlock Manga?
Yes, the rest of the gang does seem very relaxed without Sanzo. Part of me wants to believe Gojyo didn't move into the seat because they know Sanzo's plan and the whole thing was an act.
therhoda- I was trying to remeber the last time we saw Hir, and I can't. Does anyone know what was the last time we saw the (Un) Merciful Goddess?

It's never said what exactly causes the special powers - the gun or the ammu - but my guess is that it would be a combination of both. Maybe the gun doesn't have anything to do with it at all, but it's like with the demon-banishing-food.. Tickling Sanzo? Oi... yes, you certainly just had a relapse to fangirlsh patterns there. And to be honest... as much as I like the guys as characters, but... Imagine having them hanging around your place for a day or two. ("Last Action Hero", anyone? Great movie, btw. Yes, Sanzo might not be worried about them hurting him, but being injured *is* a disadvantage, and a major one at that. The manga hasn't caught up to the events of Gunlock yet... 'Mom' is still somewhere in the earlier chapters of the plot, and she seems to be taking the story different pathes... If that's what you wanted to know.

I know the method Hazel resurrected the humans was in the Manga, but wasn't sure what was after that.
If it's the bullets, how does he get them? Couldn't buy them in a normal gun store, and something like that is never shown. Do they need to be Blessed, for want of a better word. That, I guess, is why I always thought it was the gun itself, 'cause the Monks at the Temple would have done that when it was created.
I'd like to have Hakkai for atleast a day or two, he could catch up the housework I never make time for. My personal Maid for a few days. Now that would be bliss.
I am curious how hurt he really was, is it more serious than he let on? He got up and left so quickly it was hard to tell. Being injured would also make him more open to being Hypnotized.
Where do you get your manga information?

Isn't it right that in the manga the gun is just an ordinary gun, not a special youkai vanquishing gun?
I could really use Hakkai's help with the household, too. *sigh*

*looks at chaos in the room* How about if we work out a rotation schedule? Manga information about the most recent chapters published in ZeroSum can be found here: sfusion.spymac.net/translation/I think the manga called it "spirit banishing gun", but I need to check back on that... now, where's that manga with the nice pictures and the weird writing...? ;D

My Japanese speaking friend says she hasn't seen in the manga that the gun is a 'spirit banishing gun', but she says she can have missed it. If you find where it says it is, let me know. (It's very important if it's canon or not, with everything but the romantic relationship. ;D ) Does anyone know if it's possible, and in that case where, to find he gaiden chapters that has not been released in books? Is there any scanlations anywhere? I'm dying to know more about what happened to them in Heaven. Rotating scedule, sounds fine. ;D

Try here: home.eol.ca/~basara/saiyuuki/Go to the bottom of the page. It's by no means complete, though. BTW... I ran into a fun little thing concerning the "husband" think between Tenpou and Kenren. In Samurai 7, one of the Samurai mentions that he has to meet his 'spouse (married partner)'. The other character promptly assumes that he must be referring to a wife, and is embarrased to find out that the term is used for brothers in arms, too... without any 'marriage'. Considering the portrayal of the two characters in Gaiden, that would make a lot more sense... i.e. since there is no other sexual reference insult added by any of the other characters. I would have to check back if they indeed use the same word.
