I need clarification on this one. Do we just recomend one You can get legally most places or are we free to recommend any type we want? Even ones that are still airing and can only be gotten in raw or subbed form? As I have a long list, I will be working on the list till I know what the criteria are. or maybe I will do two lists, yeah that sounds better.
*putters off to work on comprehensive lists*

Recommend anything you want - old, new, for sale on DVD... Everything is fine. Just try to avoid the hentai stuff (like 'La Blue Girl'). It is a tad off the rating scale.

List 1----
Name of the anime: Fruits basket Genre: Family 13+ Summary: The Sohma family is cursed, into them stumbles a girl in need of a home. Can a normal girl live in their crazy world.
Warnings:Cute with a darker undertone.
This is my favorite Anime and Manga. I know, I have watched it at least 20+ times since I got it. The characters drive this story you get involved with them and you are sunk. In the anime you will meet 11 of 13 cursed Sohma's you will probably want to join one of their fan clubs, it happens. This is a very bishie friendly series. I personally have a fondness for 2 of the characters. I adore Kyo and Hatori, I am a sucker for a sad boy. The music for FB is soothing and melodic.
Name of the anime: Inuyasha Genre: action Summary: a feudal faerie tale, what happens when you get yanked back to feudal japan and release a truly tasty dog demon from a tree. Well watch and find out.
Warnings: This series is long, the plot is involved and it enslaves people. No I am kidding it is addictive though.
Okay, this series has had from the first time I caught half of an episode and got to watch Kagome subdue to truly tasty Inuyasha. Add one perverted monk and one dysfunctional sibling and all the rest of the cast. How could you resist? This is also the anime that got me on line, oh what it did then.
Name of the anime: Wolf's Rain Genre: Action Summary: In a post apocalyptic world, where humanity is fading. The legend of the Wolf remains. It is said that the wolves will lead the way to paradise. This anime is about following Kiba as he sets out to do just that.
Warnings: Blood, gore
This anime is stunning. The art work in some parts is amazing. Done by the same studio that did Bebop it has that feel only it is more colorful in the palette they use. I love the dynamics that form as the group searches for the answers and the way to Paradise. The music is also great I have both sound tracks to this one.
Name of the anime: Full Metal Alchemist Genre: Action Summary: Two brothers make a mistake that not only costs them but could cost everyone. This is a quest story of two kids who did the forbidden and now are searching for a way to make it right. Both for themselves and as the story progresses for their world and country.
Warnings: Blood, gore violence, heart break.
I like this series because unlike most stories this one shows there are no magic pills. Sometimes all You can do is go forward. Bad things happen to good people and sometimes the bad guys win. But it also has humor and light moments to make you hope. This show has the ability to be both light and dark. I caution anyone thought there are some episodes that made me weep and some that made me gnash my teeth.

Wow, that was great list! I can second your recommendations, except for "Fruit Basket", which I haven't seen myself.
Name of the anime: Aishiteruze Baby Genre: Kids/Family Brief Summary of what the anime is about: Yuzuyu is 5 years old. Her father is dead. Her mother suffered a nervous breakdown and dumped her off with her parent's family. Here, 15 year old Kippei is ordered to take care of the child - which turns his life as a womanizer upside down.
Warnings: extreme cuteness, partially adult topics (violence against children)
Why do you like the anime/What do you like about the anime: This show is made for a younger audience and their moms. No doubt about it. It's sometimes cute to the extreme, but it also has a wonderful way to address problems, like how easily children can become outsiders over things grown ups consider unimportant. Then, there's the way the relationship between Kippei and Yuzuyu is portraid. First unwilling, the 15 year old soon falls head over heels for the child (not in a sexual way, you pervets ;P) and he's really trying hard to replace her mother... only to realize that he can't. The show also offers a very interesting insight into Japanese culture, because the characters deal with 'normal' problems, and you get shown 'normal' solutions. I'm totally addicted to the show by now.

Inu-Yasha: I've seen some of the anime, but I have read more of the manga. Fruit Basket: well I guess I have to watch that too, like everybody else here will do eventually. Wolf Rain is new to me. Full metal Alchemist: One of my favorites, too. Aishiteruze Baby, I had never heard of. Sounds like a very sweet anime, though. I don't know where to start with my own recommendations, but I think I'll take the first one I ever saw. The anime that got me hooked on this whole anime/manga thing. Sorry if you all have seen it already. Name: Fushigi Yuugi Genre: Romance/Drama/Tragedy Summary: Two girls get sucked into a book and found themselves in ancient China. Miyaka is the heroine. She becomes the priestess of Suzaku and must gather seven warrior to save the country. Warnings: Character deaths. Not for younger kids. (The manga says 'Older teens'.) My opinion: This is the first romantic drama I have ever liked. It also deals with friends that become enemies, and the struggle from one of the participants to heal their friendship. There is also betrayal, smarm (literally to the death), and a lot of bishounen. It includes a lot of h/c.

I can totally second every reccomendation except for FB and Aishiteruze... Wolf's Rain especially got me. I adore that anime. ...and the testosterone-charged freak in me has to go with this one: Name: Hellsing Genre: Action/Horror (-ish) (the label says 16+) Summary: Set in England, his thirteen-episode ride follows the exploits and struggles of the Hellsing family as they battle the uprising of the undead with one of the undead's own. Did we mention said undead has recently taken on an apprentice? Warnings: Major blood and gore, lots and lots of death, violence out the wa-zoo, and frustration! Foul language, sexual scenes, more blood, and a permeation of religious talk. Why I love it: While it is in no way as good as the manga and leaves a bit to be desired in the explanation area, the animation is phenomenal and the style of Hirano's art isn't lost in the transfer. Personally, I just go gleeful at the drama, tension, and explosions...and the fact that the character of Alucard plays the role of insolent subordinant to the hilt. Walter also wins prizes. Not very bish-ful, unless you like piercings, (Gah, Jan o,o) but the strong lead characters hold your attention. Plus that, the soundtrack is fantastic, from 11/8 time jazz to sultry, slithering tones to the occasional quasi-hymn. It's just good all-around entertainment ;D If I had to choose, though, the manga's better. Pages and pages of eye-candy...I might just be seriously screwed up ^^; Also, because I watched it last night and can't help myself... If you haven't seen it, you really must... Name: Trigun Genre: Action/drama 13+ Summary: Vash the Stampede, the $$60 Billion man is followed by trouble wherever he goes. Milly Thompson and Meryl Strife have taken it upon themselves to act as insurance agents for those he devastates. Of course, nothing is so simple as that. Warnings: >< Major angst, violence, drunken revelry, extremely cute moments. Why I love it: Wolfwood. Yeah, the animation's not so hot sometimes, and yeah, sometimes the preachiness gets a bit annoying. But Wolfwood is one of the most wonderfully flawed and human characters I've ever seen in an anime. Trigun was the first (and only!) anime that drove me to tears, and the emotional weight that comes with the interactions between Wolfwood and Vash is re-eally condusive to having a good cry. It's the complexity of the group dynamic, even though some characters are withdrawn and moody, that really drives this anime. Plus that, another shoot-em-up for Karot ;D Gotta love a talented gunslinger or four or five. Also, hot dogs, cake, pudding, and doughnuts make me giggle. Oh, and before I forget, yet another stellar soundtrack. Maybe it's just me, but I love how simple the music is, and so beautiful at the same time. Sort of like Milly, ne? Yeah, so that's my two cents. Gosh, if we had a reccommendation thread for books I'd -never- shut up... ^^;;

KarotsaMused if you like Hellsing and Trigun you have got to look at Full Metal Alchemist. Also if we are going on sound what about Cowboy Bebop? I would put anything up against it's sound track.
Also we have all not mentioned Saiyuki is that one on the list of course you watch it?

therhoda: Well, just wait. It will pop up sooner or later. Trigun rocks. I absolutely love the last few eps, where Vash breaks down. ;D He's such a wonderful character, true to himself and a cut above the average. I think, he'd drive Sanzo nuts, though. That would be an interesting philosophy clash there... Name of the anime: Juuni Kokki (Twelve Kingdoms) Genre: Action/Romance Brief Summary of what the anime is about: A japanese school girl lives her ordinary life when one day, a mysterious man shows up in her class, kneels before her and asks her to accept. - and when she does, all hell breaks loose, and she and two of her friends ends up in a strange land where demons, immortals and humans strive for survival. From there, things start to get really interesting. Warnings: Character death, violence. Age 13+ Why do you like the anime/What do you like about the anime: Apart from the great music score, the quality of the artwork absolutely fascinated me. Add to it a (though familiar, when you have seen Fushigii Yuugii) plot that is very rich and has a lot of character developement. And you can see that the creators spend a lot of thought and time with developing the background for this universe. The series focusses on different characters and thus shows different aspects of the universe and its inhabitants.

OptiMoose: Both Vash and Wolfwood are worming around in my heart - I was on a major Wolfwood high at the time of my last post and Vash got a bit overshadowed ^^;; but I do love them both. I am prone to having overwhelming favoritist moments, though. The last four episodes -kill- me every time. I watched the entire thing with a friend (seven hour marathon! woo!) and we both cried our eyes out during "Paradise" Rhoda: Hm...Full Metal Alchemist, you say? I saw the recommendation earlier on and it does look interesting. I'll have to get off my cheap broke butt sooner or later and scrounge me up some. And I've been addicted to the Cowboy Bebop soundtrack even before I couldn't force myself to stay up late enough to watch the dubs on TV. (A fact I most sorely regret, noting my current affection for Jet) Oh, God, what divine stuff...and the movie soundtrack is phenomenal too. (Not to mention...Gah, Vincent.) I think it's -really- awesome that the composer doesn't even pay all that much attention to American jazz or blues, and yet it's caught on so well here and, of course, in other parts of the world. It's so awesome to find music that fills your hands like that. ('Scuse the weird language, but I'm a pianst and other piansts know what I'm talking about ^^; Another addictive soundtrack is the one for FLCL so, you know what... Anime: FLCL/Furi Kuri/Fooly Cooly Genre: Action/comedy/weirdness Summary: It's really, among an explosive meshing of gorgeous art styles, a bildunggs-roman centering on Naota. He's got to cope with the crazy women already in his life, and then along comes a space alien who uses his head to open an interdimensional portal through which comes all sorts of crazy crap. Warnings: Violence, sexual situations, 13+, not for people who need everything explained to them Why I love it: Aside from the addictive music (Viva The Pillows!) Naota stole my heart. He's just a kid caught in a mess, and his vulnerability is wonderful to watch. Plus that, it's laugh-a-minute, with stunning artwork and an extremely fast pace so you've got to watch the whole thing four or five times to catch it all. But really, the evolution that takes place in Naota, from relying on the memory of his brother, Tasuke, to coming into his own through the most riotous and unbelievable of circumstances, is what caught me. Okay, and Kanti is the shibbiest thing in a halo since Aziraphale ^^

KarotsaMused: I second the Full Metal Alchemist with all my heart. I'm sure you're going to love it. But be aware of a lot of angst, and I mean a lot.

Okay, let us just for forms sake. Name of the anime: Saiyuki (comes in three forms) Genre: action Summary: Four guys in a jeep out to save the world one demon body at a time. Warnings: this seems to be a love it or hate it show. violence and angst. Why do i love this show. Simple Hakkai, Goyjo, Sanzo and Goku. No matter what you like You will like one of the boys. I also can't resist a smart mouthed bad boy, add in lose morals and the inevitable pithy comment and I can't get enough. Also not to be left out pictures from this show for you to veiw. Chibi Hakkai img.photobucket.com/albums/v127/therhoda/Chibihakkai.jpg Sanzo kitty img.photobucket.com/albums/v127/therhoda/sanzokitty.pngName of the anime: Kara Kyou Maou Genre: comedy Summary: What is you were a disenfranchised youth and suddenly you got flushed down the girls toilet into a land where you are king and boys marry other boys. Not to mention the national underwear (black bikinis) What are You going to tell your mom when you get home. (in the underware) THis is the set up for this show that takes pot shots at all the animes cliches and makes them part of mahem. Warnings: If you can't laugh at someone stuck in a situation then don't watch this one. Also if You are one of the people always posting "Is Sohma Ayame gay" give this one a miss. I like this anime because I have yet to watch an episode where there wasn't something that made me laugh. Either something one of the characters does or says. Also three of the main characters are brothers. I am posting link below for you to look at. I think you will like them. Grendel is my favorite. in birth order, Grendel img.photobucket.com/albums/v127/therhoda/grendel.pngKonrad img.photobucket.com/albums/v127/therhoda/konrad.pngWolfrum img.photobucket.com/albums/v127/therhoda/pinkwolf.pngEnjoy!

Aww... I love that Sanzo-pic Cat 1 : Sanzo 0 LOL Name of the anime: Samurai Champloo Genre: Action/Samurai/Humour Brief Summary of what the anime is about: A ronin Samurai, a rogue lowerclass swordsman and a 15-year old girl travel through Japan of the early 19th century. The girl made the guyspromise to find the murderer of her father - unfortunately, the only thing she remembers about the guy is that it was a "Samurai who smelled like sunflowers". Warnings: blood and tongue-in-cheek adult topics, Age 13+, though there are a tons of jokes in there that you might not get without knowing... this and that. . Oh, and there are anachronisms in there. The series doesn't take itself too serious. Why do you like the anime/What do you like about the anime: I like the great mixture of drama and insertion of a dry humour (by the Samurai character), or not-so-dry humour (by the rogue character). It's a tongue-in-cheek series that covers fandom (i.e. the doujinshis) and the genre of Samurai series alike. There are in-depth plot episodes and others that are pure character fun... like the one with the eating contest. Guess, who gave up after the first bowl of food? This is not a series for people who take everything too serious. ;D
