The argument/fight has to be carried by the dialogue and its descriptive tags, but narration is of course not forbidden. The idea behind the current contest is to put a lot of the emotions into spoken language and speech tags. Example: This would be an example for a short, verbal fight. Try to make the reader feel the anger/disappointment/hurt/fear of the characters. Narration is welcome, but this exercise is "show, don't tell".

Oooh, I'm actually glad you asked that question, because I'd gotten the wrong idea from the description of the parameters of the challenge.
See, questions help those of us that don't even know we need to ask!

Hey there oh great 42 Days moderator! I wrote a fic for the third competition, but I'm not sure it qualifies. Could I beg you to give it a once over and let me know? If it does, I'll submit it, but if not, I won't. Thanks! Tactics: www.fanfiction.net/s/2251911/1/

Hey, oh great author! ;D The story is permitted, though you might want to do the good old grammar and spelling check on it. Good luck!

Ahhh yesh. Question...since I'm new around these parts. *looks around* Can you submit something that you wrote before a challenge was announced? I have a fic comprised of one-shots, and one of them would fit challenge #5 perfectly. I didn't want to submit it without asking first though. There's no such thing as a stupid question, but I feel retarded anyway. ^^;

Ah, that's okay. Only clever people find the courage to ask, you know.
As it is, the 42 Days contest was designed to train writing skills - react to a challenge about a topic, produce a certain outcome, all within 42 days. Unfortunately, that means that your already existing chapter doesn't qualify for the contest. Outside of that, it would have to be a seperate story at the time of the contest.
I'm sorry that I can't give you any better news on this, but it would be unfair towards everyone else if 'recycling' of already existing stories was allowed in the middle of the contest.
However, if there's a majority of people here for the usage of existing chapters, that would be added to the rules and work for the next contest. I'll put up a vote thread for this, then we'll see about the results. Does that sound okay to you?

Sounds fair to me. Thanks for answering, I don't feel quite like a retard anymore. *L* And now I must dive into my mind and hunt down my muse.... It's a scary journey. ;D

Seems like there's no real interest to decide upon old chapters/stories being allowed for the contests. Only four votes so far...
Talking about interest, and on a more general note: With the constantly dwindling numbers of both, stories and voters for the contests, I'm thinking about shutting down the constests altogether after contest 10.
Additionally, oof two people, no one has bothered to vote for the stories of the current contest. I find that a rather sad behaviour. C'mon, people. It's not as if you have to wade through millions of pages...

ok admin, i've written it and posted it but it will be awhile before it's actually up(hopefully within the deadline!) and now that i've posted it i feel damn silly *berates and smacks self in head-not too hard!* for not asking this earlier...um it is for the Saiyuki fandom(no surprise there) but it is an AU fic...can i still enter it! *looks sheepishly stupid!* but whatever the case i did write it and it was actually quite hard(for me anyway) and now that i have done it, it doesn't matter the outcome to me now...cos i did it! YAY! love- zan

Sure, it can be any fandom, any AU. If there's a restriction to the fandom, that would be noted in the contest rules for the Challenge.

You can post your story wherever else you like after you've written it. It just has to be on ffnet to qualify for the contest.
