- Do you have questions about the contest, the rules and the entries of "42 Days"?
- Is there any problem you experienced?

-Is there any problem you experienced? That depends...does 'not enough hours in the day for me to get time to write' count as a problem?

*hands therhoda superglue* therhoda: Well, sticking to a certain length is quite hard. You need to pick the idea you want to write about carefully. Is your topic one that can be handled in a short story of 2000 words? If yes, did you add in more ideas as you went along? My suggestion is that you cut out everything that isn't directly part of the original idea, and make a follow-up story from those "unused" thoughts. This might sounds like a drastic measure, but as an author you'll have to learn what part of the story can be safely sacrificed without losing the coherency and the flow of your story. MsCongeniality: Not finding the time for writing is definitely a problem (one that is a problem for me, too). The only way to handle it is: structure your day and make time. If writing is important enough, you'll find ten or fifteen minutes, or even an hour every day. For me, it's half an hour during lunch break. It's my "sacred time for writing". Of course, that doesn't mean I'm always able to write at that time, Real Life has enough unexpected interruptions ready. But more often then not I can scribble down lines or scenes.

Heh. Half an hour for lunch...I'm jealous. Seriously, I understand about scheduling writing time into your day but I was in the midst of a double shift where I didn't have the time to leave my computer long enough to get food so I was feeling a bit snarky about it. Now I'm just too tired to write or even to contemplate how to break up the run-on sentence above.

Yea, I have a few questions.
You said this can't be romance, right? Is your definition of romance love? So for example, could I write a story about rape (I write too many stories about it, so I wont this time)? Is urequited love considered romance, because I have this idea going around in my head and I don't want it to void. One last question, can I write the characters bitterness to romance?
Sorry for all the question, It's just that when I start, I just can't stop.

No romance, no love story. No unrequited love. No bitterness over love gone wrong.
as for rape... I don't know if you can handle the topic in just 2000 words. Plain and simple, nothing that has to do with hormones, butterflies in stomaches, mooney eyes, etc.

I would think Rape would be out anyway. After all, one of the rules is "No pairings." Rape counts as a pairing even if it is nonconsential.. I would think. Just my 2 cents.

Salma, I tend to agree with you. I think rape would be a type of pairing.

Mmm... I hadn't thought of that, but you two are absolutely correct. So, no rape fic either. The same rules apply as for the romance fic.

Um...I have a question - can I write a song fic if I don't count the lyrics in the final word count?

Every word in the story counts, including lyrics. You can write a songfic if you like, that's up to you. But maybe you want to try it without the lyrics, because of the limited word count? I'm certain you can pull off a great story without the lyrics.

Thanks...I was asking about the lyrics count simply because I wasn't sure if you'd consider them something extra or not.

Hey, a songfic was on my list of posible contest entries. I have so many ideas of what kind of fic to do, that I keep restarting my fic.
