Not Reload the anime, but Reload the manga... The March-installment of Reload in ZeroSum has 46!!! pages. We'll see the guy branching into unexpected pairs, and Nii's bunny reaveals its secret. *bites into her desk* WHAAAAAAA!!!!! I want that magazine. I want it NOW. Preferably scanlated.

I loved Bunny's secret. That is the only page Journey to the Rest had up from the chapter, but it was perfect. Especially for all the bunny haters.
I get my Reload DVD on the 18th, but somehow therhoda has gotten hers already. She is not a fan of the new English voices.
OptiMoose, roughage is good, but I'm not sure a wood desk fits that definition. ;D

Well, I got Saiyuki RELOAD's first DVD volume yesterday. Unfortunatly, therhoda is correct. The voices are HORRIBLE. I liked the opening announcer, but from there the voices just went downhill. It was hard to tell Sanzo and Gojyo's voices apart (though Sanzo's voice wasn't totally unbearable) and Hakkai's voice, they tried to make him sound more formal, just sounded wooden. Can't even figure out what was wrong with Goku, it just felt wrong. After less than 15 minutes I was twitching to change over to the Japanese voices and just read the subtitles, but I am a stubborn person ;D and felt I needed to be fair. They can only get better, I kept telling myself. NOPE. At least not in the 2 1/2 episodes I managed to watch. *sigh*. The question is, do you continue to buy the DVD's for a better picture quality and to support the possible future production of more Saiyuki, or put the money into other series and manga?

Well, I'll buy the DVD. But I will never watch the English dubbed version, never have and never will. It's not for the English voices I buy the DVDs. ;D

Since I first discovered Saiyuki through the English voices, I have an attatchment to the original English voices. If I hadn't liked them I never would have discovered the rest that Saiyuki had to offer. RELOAD and Gunlock have, of course, been in Japanese and sound best that way. But...if ADV had gotten the rights to RELOAD and Gunlock, I would have been happy with the English VA. The problem is, I have all the subbed and have way too many other places to spend my money, than on something I already have.

Ah, yeah, money, that's a more than understandable reason. In fact, I can't buy anything at all for the moment. ^^;; Be it Saiyuki DVDs or anything else. (Food? Eh, maybe, I'm not sure. *counts money in wallet* Guess not... )

I have basically decided to continue to buy them just never ever watch the english track. The problem is I am more curious as to whether this translation is better? I think it is as the same people that did the original are co producing this one. In one way I know that this is coming to us more from the same company that does the originals and if we are ever going to get more this will be who gives it to Japan then us. Supporting them is important, but I still have all my subs and there are other dvd's that don't make my ears bleed.

therhoda, you pointed out my concern exactly. If we don't support the current DVD's, will the companies be interested in bringing us future Saiyuki if/when they become available? As for whether the translation is better, that would certainly be a plus for continuing to buy the series. Also, part of me is morbidly curious to hear their voices when the Kami-sama arc starts. Since they only come out every other month, I will have plenty of time to decide.

I'm now somewhat scared, especially after reading a rant by cupnjava on one of the Saiyuki mailing lists about the voices... I was going to pick up my Reload vol one later this week (manga came first last week since I had already seen Reload but not read the manga vols I bought). Now I am tossing up as to whether to grab my Saiyuki or instead Full Metal Alchemist (my other fave)...Whatever happens, I will continue to support Saiyuki by buying the DVDs. If nothing else for the pretty covers and better quality imagery.

My Newtype Magazine arrived today ;D and the Saiyuki RELOAD volume 1 DVD is the Newtype USA DVD of the month. It also seems that someONE likes the new voices. I quote, "Geneon's release of *Saiyuki RELOAD* uses different voice actors than were featured in ADV Films' releases of the original TV series and the *Requiem* movie. While it may take you a moment to warm up to them, their performances capture the personalities of the characters perfectly.", end quote.

okay they paid for that! Either that or someone at geneon was providing recreational pharmaceuticals to the reviewer before hand. I have yet to talk to any regular Saiyuki fan that has made it all the way through the disc with the english voices still on. heck I have griped about it enough Hubby is talking about watching it just so he knows what I keep griping about. Well as always it is up to each person to make a decision and don't forget the japanese track is on there and the translation is better on the subs.

You know the Voice Actors have to be bad if my Husband thinks they are terrible. Paul can usually stand to listen to any and all dubbing efforts (that includes some God awful ones). I'm proud to say this was the first dubbing he couldn't stand.
I will continue to buy it for the better picture quality and the *official* translations.

Well, the second DVD of Saiyuki Reload is out. They have managed to add more things to dislike. The voices are still terrible, though Sanzo and Gojyo are still ALMOST bearable. Sanzo lacks the fire and anger in his voice, it is flat. Gojyo isn't quite pervy enough. ;D Hakkai is still too wooden and Goku is too young sounding and squeaky. New things to drive you crazy: they keep throwing in swear words where there aren't any in the Japanese subbing, Lirin refers to Sanzo as a Friar when the subtitles clearly say Baldy Monk and they OVER Formalize Hakkai's speech. All this is in just the first episode on the DVD.

well animax is just finished airing "reload" , and i prefer watching it watching it in Japanese. i tried watching it in English, (i don't know if we have the same English voices as you folks do - but my guess is yes) but it was too horrible and cringey. and Hakuryu became Hakaru, and RinRin, and in a flashback scene once Kanan refers to Hakkai as Hakkai, and not as Gonou. and i think i even heard Hakkai use the word dude! yes the husband did concur that the voices were not quite up to scratch. he was certain that i would get used to it, and although we are just up to the Kami-sama arc, no i still haven't got used to it. so i watch it English the first time and then on the repeat cycle i watch it in Japanese (huzzah! for dual sound). well once animax, finishes with "reload" they've promised to air "gunlock" . unfortunately i can only watch it halfway as due to our trip i can only watch it halfway and then hopefully on our return animax will re air gunlock. and animax doesn't air the episodes with the UruSai scenes. i have seen them on yareyaredotnet though. and they are pretty funny of what i can see anyway! but i can't wait, seems most people have already seen gunlock...and i haven't yet, boo! hoo! and i can't wait till we meet up with stephen's brother...'cos apparently he has bought me the Saiyuki film on DVD. whichever one it is...its the thought that went into it that counts!!! much love all - zan
