title:Crichton vs PREDATOR: In the Belly of the Beast author:Spacelord link:www.fanfiction.net/u/48824/status:Complete - 2 Chapter rating:PG-13 genre:Action, Romance, Sci-Fi series:Farscape, Predator warnings:Violence, Crossover, Death summary:Crichton and the other crew members of Moya find themselves with no choice but to ally themselves with Peacekeepers and their prisoners in order to fend off a lethal alien hunter who can turn invisible. review:The thing that impresses me the most with this story is how well the author protrays Crichton. The ability to successfully write the precarious balancing act between wittiness and out right hysterical insanity that Crichton is dealing with at this period during the show is particular difficult. The author's success at this can especially be seen in the dialogue between Crichton and Scorpy or Aeryn and Crichton. Not only does the author deal well with the characters, but he also blends the two shows together convincingly. Too often are crossover fics marred by ill-concieved premises and poor implementation. Belly of the Beast is excellant; in that, neither universe is rearrange willy-nilly to fit with the other. In additon, the author's methods of dealing with the juxtiposition between the two universes is amusing and entertaining. The successful combination of the two realities is not limited to the logistics of the situation. The author also artful blends the tone of the two stories together while presenting it in his own unique style. In the beginning, while explaining the setting and setting the mood, the tone is in keeping with the amused pessimism of Farscape. The story continues into action sequences which are protrayed with a mixture of tones. Finally, we are given a full glimpse of the wistful society bound by honor and violence that makes up the Predator mystic. Barring a hand full of grammatical errors, mostly involving the lack of a comma, there is only one thing that I saw that could truly use improving. This being that the author does not have any sort of marker to indicating the change of scenes. This however could be easily fixed with some well placed carriage returns.

I know this one has been mentioned before in this thread, but that was before we had the postings organized like the other recommendation threads. Title: Don't Speak Author: Crimson1 Location: www.fanfiction.net/s/1728229/1/Rating: R Warnings: Violence, m/m Series: Saiyuki Genre: Action, Romance Summary: Goku founds out that Gojyo has feelings for Hakkai, and reveals to Gojyo that he has feelings for Sanzo. Goku persuades Gojyo that they both soon must tell Hakkai and Sanzo how they feel. Before that happens, Gojyo accidently seriously injures Goku. Why you recommend it: Many sweet moments between the different characters. If you like Hakkai as a youkai, this is a good fic to read. Title: Honeymoon Author: Sora-kun Location: www.fanfiction.net/s/1240112/1/Rating: PG-13 Warnings: Death, m/m Series: Saiyuki Genre: Romance, Angst Summary: An insight in how the life became for Tenpou and Kenren after they were thrown out from Heaven, before they became Hakkai and Gojyo. Why I recommend it: It's sweet and melancholy, and I like the style it's written in. It's also different since the characters are not canon, but still not really original characters.

Me-Nuriko
Thank you for your recommendations. I had already read Crimson1's Don't Speak. It was excellent.
Honeymoon by Sora-kun was beautiful and heartbreaking. It took a dozen tissues to read the last chapter.

Well, this one has also been mentioned before, but not proper recommended since this thread was organized. Title: Awakenings Author: stitcher2ficcer Location: www.fanfiction.net/s/1692511/1/Rating: PG-13 Warnings: Boy's Love, violence Series: Saiyuki Genre: Action, Romance, Angst Summary: The title pretty much sums it up. It's the awakenings of their feelings for each other. Why I recommend it: It's such a well written story. It makes their love to each other believable, this is how it can happen.

So is it okay to ask for recommendations or only to give them? I'm on something of a 58 kick at the moment, and was wondering if anyone knows of some particularly good Gojyo/Hakkai stories. I simply can't get enough of well written character interactions. Oh, but I do have a couple recommendations: For anyone out there who likes Get Backers, I highly recommend "The Mickey" by X-parrot. It's PG, presumably for a little language and intimations of shonen ai. The author's summary is as follows: "Ban runs into difficulty on a job. Unfortunately, Shido's there to help." I enjoy X-parrot's very human approach to Ban, Shido and Ginji, and I must admit I'm generally fond of seeing strong characters reminded of their limitations. location: fanfiction.net/s/1533773/1/As for Saiyuki, I happened across a wonderful little story which reminded me powerfully of Kipling, for some reason, and which I think would be grand if someone could draw it up as a childrens book - well, for adults. The story is entitled, "The Sanzou Who Walked by Himself." It's by MJJ. The site does not include ratings, but I would put it somewhere between PG and PG-13 for a little language. It's a tale of Sanzou encountering his companions for the first time done in the style of a lyrical folktale (it is prose, mind you). The author's delightful use of language and amusing characterization of Sanzo had me laughing well after I'd finished reading. location: daiquiribird.philsites.net/saiyuki/fanfics/sanzoubyhimself.phphmm...my apologies for being unable to make the addresses into actual links. I'll try to figure that one out.

The addresses work just fine as links, so don't worry about them. I'll check out the Sanzo story. X-parrot's 'The Mickey' I have read. I love all of her stories. I just wish she would finish some of them... As for 58 stories, well, if I may do as KarotsaMused and say one of my own? Cho Hakkai:Murderer? (I can't believe I just wrote that. Recommending myself? Karot: You're a bad influence. ) Otherwise - stitcher2ficcer's 'Awakenings', in the summary it sounds like it's mostly 39, but there are some really good 58 in it, too. Crimson1's 'Don't Speak', and 'A Taisho and a Gentleman' (mostly Kenren/Tenpou). Guardian of Jupiter's - 'A Curse of Taboo Child'. These are what comes in mind first.

Thanks for the recommendations! And as for recommending your own work, I'm glad you did. I've yet to complete it, but it's definitely pushed back my bedtime an hour a night for the past several days. Can't wait to see how it ends!

Nyah. I *am* a bad influence. *giggle* I take back none of it! ;D If you're proud of something, you'll want to show it off to others.
I myself haven't actually written any really juicy 58 in a while. *rubs forehead* What the heck is wrong with me? Meh. But as for others, I second Me-Nuriko's motion toward "A Taisho and a Gentleman" - so cute. SO CUTE.

Me-nuriko: Well, I've finally read everything you recommended. Loved them! I also read that story "Honeymoon" mentioned somewhere earlier in this forum, cried my eyes out, and am now looking for recommendations for the silliest (yet still well-written) stories folks like. Oh, but I wholeheartedly recommend Ryuji.Raicho's "Where do Babies Come From" in the Get Backers category. It's rated PG. The story revolves around Ban and Ginji dealing with a baby that gets dropped on their windshield. I enjoyed it because the characterizations are dead on, the baby behaves as a baby would, rather than as some overly obnoxious plot devise, and the plot is well constructed with plenty of humorous and tender moments along the way. www.fanfiction.net/s/1865585/1/

Wow, you're a fast reader! Those stories, including Honeymoon, were all loooong. Glad you liked them, though. Honeymoon is so beautiful. I cried, too. Silly stories, huh? Well, you got me on that one. It depends on how you define silly, too. I don't know... since you like X-parrot you've probably already read 'Warm and Fuzzy'. Oh, I know, KarotsaMused's 'Summer Detour: Hosed', it's silly/funny in my book at least. ;D Yes, another GetBackers, 'Birthday Surprise' by Ellcrys. If you haven't read it you will see Akabane in a new light. ;D

If by silly you mean hurmorous, then this is a great story! Title: The Trouble with H Author: Karu Leonnese Rating: PG-13 Genre: Comedy Series: Saiyuki Warnings: Has 58 and 39 pairings. Summary: The Sanzo party has problems with many things but espescially things that start with H. "]http://www.fanfiction.net/s/1917699/1/]

Whee! Hurray for Get Backers silliness (I can never get enough of those two). The story with Akabane was a riot as well - he's always been a favourite of mine, although this is the first comedic story involving him that I'd read. I enjoyed the hose story quite a bit too, and the "Trouble with H" was hysterical.
I just love humor. I wish I could write it.
Say, anybody know of any Saiyuki christmas stories? I found a number of good Halloween ones, but have yet to find any for the coming holiday.

That's a bit of a toughie, especially since Christmas isn't really a holiday that fits the whole ancient-China dealio. Then again, Halloween didn't stop anybody (although Nightfall Rising's AU's were sneaky enough to come into a time period where Halloween was relevant!) ... Hopefully (or, deplorably,) as the holiday draws nearer a few should pop up, but I have no idea about any existing Christmasfics for Saiyuki.

A Hikaru no Go fiction just rocked my world, so I thought I'd share it in case anyone else is as addicted to this fandom as I am. Title: Seance de Go Author: Aishuu Location: archive.skyehawke.com/story.php?no=2626Rating: probably G or PG (the site doesn't rate). There's nothing really objectionable, but the story is a little deep. This story is exceptionally well written with a well done take on a somewhat cliched device. Essentially it is about Hikaru and Akira playing a game on a dark and stormy night, but what got me was the power of the style employed and the story told. That said, it left me in tears, but if you like the eternal rivals, you simply must read this.

Title: A Fine Winter Morning Author: Snowyheart Location: www.fanfiction.net/s/2201652/1/Rating: PG-13 Warnings: Nada. Gen as the winter is cold. Series: Saiyuki Genre: Humor Summary: "T'was a fine winter morning all through the inn, the sutra went missing and o what a sin." Why I recommend it: Holidays and humor, all in one delightful package. ^^ This aside, Snowyheart is an excellent "serious" author; her metaphors leave me intentionally breathless. If you haven't read "Wanting (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/2179742/1/)," what are you doing here?
