Oh, I always enjoy the horror and terror But the anonymity of the internet has its advatages, even though, after a whuile, one wants to meet the mysterious people at the other side of the screen. Oi, Me-Nuriko, Sweden isn't that far away from Germany, is it? *runs for cover*

Heheh, OptiMoose. Somehow I don't think you really would run from me in horror. ;D I think we would be getting on just fine. Unless I start talking Gojyo/Hakkai, of course. That may get you running.

*g* I wouldn't run. Italy ain't too far either!!
I can't be bothered to use a paper dictionary, and dictionary.com is annoying to me. I use an encyclopedia i installed on my pc. It's great, it has synonyms plus definitions plus the encyclopedia/origin etc plus quotes plus whether that word relates to anything in history (like a title for a book, etc)

Maybe we should arrange an European get together some day? How many people here are European, I wonder? As for dictionaries, the biggest problem for me is to find Swedish/English ones that covers every topic. But fortunately, beside from common topic dictionaries, there are also sites with specialized topics.

A European get together sounds cool. Maybe that's something to tackle down for next year? If it works out well, we could have a gathering every year, wandering from country to country. That would be ultra cool.

I got to find myself a steady job! But where? Silly rules that makes it harder to get an employment if you are over 35-40. I'd love a gathering every year. Better start writing this best selling novel, so I can have the money to come. ;D

A european get-together would be cool, though it'd be difficult for me to get to one since (1) school takes up all of my time and (2) i'll be spending loads of time in university the next 4 years
sigh. but it'd be cool! i just have a feeling my mom would freak and be like "you'll be kidnapped!" heehee

Hehe, it can't be too bad to be kidnapped by a bunch of rabid fangirls. ;D Eh, don't say that to your mom. Seriously though, I think it's much safer on a meeting like this, than going on Interrail around Europe with your newly met boyfriend at the age of sixteen as I did.

You did that?! Cool!
Going sort of back to the topic... I think a main problem of the internet (and thus the written word) is that you begin to imagine people in a certain way... then when you see them (through photos or meetings) you're like "whoa!" and it's surprising!
Not a bad surprising, mind you. I enjoy the reactions of those I've showed photos too. *g* And it does make the people on the other side of the screen seem more real, don't you think?
I have some friends who are so different online it's weird talking to them. *shakes head* I don't understand it.

Most people wear some kind of mask to hide the real person inside. It's a protection until you find you can trust each other to let go of the masks. Some people have big masks, other smaller. And some have different masks when meeting with different persons. That can be a problem if you meet two or more persons for which you wear different masks.
When writing, the mask is not as necessary, you're already hidden behind the anonymousity. So it's not so frightening to show more of yourself. But, we still have the problem that even if you show the real you, it can be misinterpreted. And we're back to square one.

True, but I can't imagine ever being different, or feeling differently. I feel a way about something, and I always feel that way, on the internet on in RL. I never see any reason to be different.
*g* Now you're all going to run away, hm?
Anyway, I'd rather the real me be misinterpreted, than a fake me being understood. Because it's not me, you know?
Or am I just weird?

You're not weird, you're wise. And brave. It took me many years to be that brave, I wore a mask for a long time, and still do when with certain people, or in certain circumstances.

There's a thin line between bravery and foolishness. ;D

I use to think of it as masks or an onion.
I thought of a different way to put it. A person is themselves no matter what enviroment you put them in; however in different enviroments different elments of a person are exposed. I seem a different person to ya'll because I talk about anime and writing and the like. I not very likely to get into a large political discourse or talk about how I built an electric powered vehicale in High School. It just isn't likely to come up in board discussion.
It is like the iceburg principle. In our day to day interaction we only see the tip of the iceburg of a person. Overtime of course you learn more about people, but that is what makes friendships fun.
