Hobbies outside of writing? What? ^^; Okay, seriously... I love drawing. Still anime-related, but it's fun and relaxing, especially during those periods where I can't write. I used to take karate, but I grew bored and quit after I got my orange belt. Also, books. I'm obsessed with books. There's almost always one author I'll be massively into at one point or another. I owned or have read nearly all of L.J. Smith's books by the time I was fifteen. Between then and the end of my junior year in high school, I'd combed my school library for everything I could find by V.C. Andrews, Piers Anthony, and Mercedes Lackey. Sometime after I got over my Piers Anthony phase I started reading Dean Koontz, and I'm still avidly reading and collecting his works. So yes, books have actually been a hobby of mine since the first grade. I've gone from collecting the Boxcar Children to any and everything by Dean Koontz. But lately, as with most other people here, school has taken over my life. ^^; And it'll probably do this until I graduate. After graduation, maybe I'll have more time to look for more hobbies to get into or have.

Yea, I love books too. V.C. Andrews has to be my favorite author, but right now I seem to be taking a liking to Jennifer Fallon, she has some great books.

You can't beat me bookwise... I read 7-8 novels a week... But hobbies? I'm an eco-warrior/eco-terrorist ... I enjoy Tae-Kwon-Doe, ballet (Senior 6), tap (Junior Silver), piano, swimming... and Mandarin, though I wouldn't really call it a hobby. It's just that my parents are determined that I do it for GCSE's, so I want to get an A for it... *sigh*... oh and drawing. ;D School, as with most people, makes up most of my life (pathetic, isn't it?), but one day... I'll become an arsonist and set fire to it!!! I wish. Finally, Anime. Capital 'A'. My life revolves around it and the internet.

Well my main hobby seems to be jumping late onto the train. Choo Choo. Other than that, I, like a few others of you, love art - I'm actually taking a break from working on a hand & foot study at the moment ... heh. I'll draw doodles that take up more of the paper than my notes do...Just recently I lent out a sheet of Econ notes to my friend and apparently she couldn't concentrate ;D I a dork. My style isn't anime, really, it's more of an amalgamation of anime-influenced artwork and my own disproportionate likings. And while I can do realism, if forced, I rather prefer my doodles (Yes, I'm still in the process of inking Effy. Plaid is tedious!) Because of my ROPCG class, I'm getting into playing with Photoshop, too. Unfortunately I'm on a PC (Strike one! The art world thrives on Macs) and I don't have Photoshop (Strike two!) so all of my machinations are limited to 2nd hour at school. Aside from art, I'm a pianist and have been studying clasically for thirteen years - outside of all those evaluations and recitals, I write music and pick stuff up from the radio or old musicals. I'm not as quick a composer as I am a writer, sadly enough, but the few songs I have finished (I'm pushing thirty. Woo!) I'm either pleased with or in the process of reworking. Another testament to my laziness is that I don't record them, and have the lyrics/chord changes scribbled on a yellow steno pad I keep by the piano. I, like too many people in this thread to mention, am a total bookworm. Right now the main loves of my life are Fitzgerald, Vonnegut, Hiassen, Palahniuk, and Pratchett ... But I will read practically anything that seems interesting enough. I like horror novels, but I think Koontz is better than King "Tick Tock" made me laugh so hard. Other than that, when I actually *do* leave the house I'm an avid rollerblader and I've been skiing since I could walk. I'm no hand at Karate, though I think I'll just ski away if I'm challenged. Zoomfwishh. Oh, lol, that's one more thing. I do voices, sometimes for the school's theatrical productions. I sing, and have been in a few musicals, but everybody's favorite is always the Valley Girl impression. I'm pretty good at Jessica Rabbit, too Finally - Blood_Debt: 7-8 novels a WEEK??

I have been know to sit down with whole series and read them in a day. My personal best at reading is that I read the Whole (all of them) Wheel of Time seies by Jordan In a week. Now I will point out at this point, That I am a bookaholic and one of the reasons I read and wade though Fan fiction is it cuts the books bills back. We figure I read an average of about 400 pages an hour with pretty good retentive skills. But hey at 14, I was happy to get 5-7 books a week.
Don't forget to check the recommended book thread in general where we all have our say on our new books.
Lets see I consider my anime and manga collecting a Hobby, but other than that I like RPG games, if you guys noticed when I got eaten for a week play star ocean. I can cook but as I am an actual relic I america a house wife I don't think I could get away with not cooking.
And does find new way to pester people count as a hobby?

I used to read 7-8 books when I was younger, too. Hey, I read through half the public library of my hometown! Though, with switching to English literature, my reading speed went down considerably. I often have to re-read and retranslate a sentence several times. On the bright side of things, it made me aware of that I had actually forgotten how great a sentence can 'taste' - I used to gulp them down. So, I tend to read slower in general nowadays.

Wo..I'm still in shock over the whole 7-8 novels a week...though I've known for, what? Two years? I always thought it was more along the lines of 12, but they weren't really novels, I guess. *smiles* My average in actual books is quite low..fanfic fills and bursts my reading quota. I'm not allowed to read John Grisham's stuff (stupid dad won't let me!!) so I have to read it while he's not home...which is ofen.
And other than reading and writing...uhh...well, school pretty much fills up my time, but I like sport - particularly basketball, netball, badminton (when indoor and playing against people who are really bad) ...and if anything in school is to be enjoyed, it's chemistry. And lunchbreak. ^_^
Drawing fills the time too, though I die when I see my friends' work...particularly Jasmin's....c'est ne pas juste!! (I don't mind french either >.< what's wrong with me?!?! )
And internet-ing. Of course. What else would I spend six hours a day doing? @_@
I'd love to learn karate, or something. I used to do fencing, but the guys in my class kept messing around and it was really annoying. -_-v But martial arts is certainly something I want to do.

Since everyone seem to tell they love to read, and read a lot, so, yes, I read, too, a lot. I have to agree with OptiMoose, when I started to read in English I had to slow down. At least in the beginning. Now, it's actually that 'bad' that I often can't remember if I read a book in Swedish or English. Wheel of Time. Well, I love the first books, but then Jordan is slowing things down in the extreme. It's like he must fill the book with words, but nothing happens. I think it took 26 pages to walk down a corridor and open a door! I mean descriptions, and thoughts, are all good, but there is a limit. At least in my mind. I read books in a lot of different genres. Fantasy, Science Fiction, detective/police stories, novels situated in earlier history or ancient times (We have some really good novels about a family living in Stockholm during the 16th and 17th century. I don't know if they are translated to English, or if anyone outside Sweden would be interested, but maybe the way of living was much the same for poor people in the cities around Europe. Oops, jumping topics. ), eh, yes, I also like novels about life in other countries that are exotic to me, like Greenland or something like that. But I don't only read novels. I like books about History, Languages, Astronomy, Religion, and lot of other subjects.

Like everyone else I LOVE to read. I read Fantasy, SciFi, Horror, Detective Stories, Mysteries and Comedies. Like several others, FanFiction helps keep my book costs at least in the realistic area. ;D I don't like to borrow books from the library. If I like a book I HAVE to own it so I can revisit it at a later time. RolePlaying games are also high on my list. I play Diablo 2 online and I have Final Fantasy XI waiting to go, just need the time. LOVE to cook, HATE to clean up. Am planning to go back to school for some classes in the near future.

*g* I used to read 7/8 novels a week too, but then I finished all the books that interested me in our small school library, as well as all the books I have in my room. I began to order lots of books, but... Mostly I read fanfics. ^^ But lately I've taken a pause from reading and concentrate more on art related activities, like a new mural in my room! XD Probably that's the cause of my diminished writing output.. I find that reading and writing are inexplicably linked. On the bright side of things, it made me aware of that I had actually forgotten how great a sentence can 'taste' - I used to gulp them down. So, I tend to read slower in general nowadays. I gulp down sentences a lot when I read in English. However, if I enjoy a book, I tend to reread it about twice in the 2 months after I first read it, and then continue rereading it whenever I'm in the mood. The more often I read books, the more I savor the writing style. That's also a reason why I find reading in Italian frustrating. I try to gulp down the sentences, then realize that I don't understand much that way, and force myself to slow down. A slow pace kills me, unless I really like the book. Right now I'm reading the sequel to City of the Beasts (by Isabel Allende) in Italian, so I'm going to be reading that for the next week or so.

kitsune-oni, it's always nice to find people who like to re-read books when they finish them. A lot of people look at me as though I am crazy for doing this. There have been many times, when I finish a book, I start back at page one right away. I always find things I have missed, or just spots that were just too good not to *visit* again.

Yeah, as cesmith knows, rereading immediatly after finishing is what I did with 'Nightrunners' (recommended at Book recommendations *hint, hint*).

Me-Nuriko. I just finished the Nightrunners series and that was the first thing I had to do, start over and reread how Alec met Seregil...etc. I can only hope Lynn Flewelling will continue to write more stories about these wonderful characters. This is a teriffic series and I can't recommend it enough.
