I found the one I was thinking of it isn't a great piece of literature but, it amused me which is the point. In order to put up a through review I'll have to reread it. So it won't be up till probably later this week. Unless you want me to give you the link earlier?
BTW you should check out the fanfic rec thread and contribute. ;D

BTW you should check out the fanfic rec thread and contribute. ;D Hehe, guess I should do that. Especially since I was the one who started the thread. ;D But not tonight. *yawn* By not checking the thread I meant, before I posted my previos post. (Am I able to say something coherent at all tonight?)

Actually, a lot of the Mary Sue stories could be excellent OFC stories with a more experienced author. Though, the "jealousy" that fans have (This character is MINE and MINE alone!) certainly adds to the problem. I mean, it's a personal fantasy shared, and it's marked as a personal fantasy... there's no space for the rest of the audience with a Mary Sue (different from a Cannon Sue, where you still can identify yourself with the original character used in the pairings).

Oh NO! I didn't know that Mary Sue existed before I started writing! ARGHHHH!!! However, my characters are far from perfect... can someone check it out and tell me? I'm on Animespiral.com, under Blood_Debt... (Balancing the Worlds) Some Mary Sue'(s) are well written, but if you have you own, you get them confused. especially if they have the same names... I normally wander off in the middle somewhere... Blood_Debt

As I said there is nothing wrong with basing a chracter off your own experiences. After all what do you know better than your own experiences. As for the propencity of Mary Sue's to be all powerful., all I have to say is that there are two catagories of fanfiction authors. Those that write out their fantasies to entertain themselves and those who desire to entertain others and improve their writing.
I have a friend who is part of the later group. She has these great ideas for characters and plots, but since she writes to vent her frustration and stress the character she associates with is really all powerful. This is what makes her happy though and she really has no desire to develop her style to appeal to a large audience. Actually her stories will probably never make it to a wider audience then her and mayhaps me.
You on the other hand show a genuine desire to improve. The fact that you actually even posted on this board proves it. It takes a lot of courage to ask for help.^^ My advise is don't worry about if your characters in Balancing the Worlds are Mary Sue; instead, find some good people (looks around at all the board members here) to help you flesh out your original characters, strengthen your plot and grow as an author.

Hi blood_debt! Nice to see you're taking part in the talks. Don't panic about the Mary-Sues in your story. It's perfectly normal to create characters that way when you just started out writing. But I have seen that you reposted your other story, and I must say I am very, very impressed what you did to the first chapter! The new one reads 300% better than before. You can be very proud of yourself. Keep up the hard work.

Hie! I finally got an account on both fanfic.net and here! I would like to know- is anyone willing to help me flesh out my characters? They would have to be willing to edit a story halfway done... I don't think this is exactly the right place, but... And how do you start up threads? It's probably staring me in the face and I just haven't looked... but that's me all over!

Hi Blood_Debt and welcome! You can start a new thread on the subject page of each topic. Look at the top right hand side, or bottom too, and you will see the words New Thread, click there and you just fill in the post.

Hi! I am a friend of Blood_Debt's...I don't write anime fic though. I do write Lord of the Rings stuff though and would like someone to either beta/tell me what to do to fix my characters. I am perfectly sure that I am well on the way to making a complete Mary-Sue and will totally screw it up so before I even THINK of posting it, I need help!!! ;D pretty please? I write at animespiral under the names "elven_dreamer" and "obsidian_butterfly" and at fanfiction.net as "elven dreamer" so go read and tell me what about them sucks and what kicks butt!! Ok that's really going extreme as I doubt it's very good. c u later and please reply!!!!! arelsil

Hi arelsil, and welcome to this place full of whacko persons. I hope, you'll enjoy your time here and find a lot of things to chat about. I started a thread in the Fanfiction section to help with Mary Sueish characters. Please check it out. As far as Mary Sues are concerned... you can pretty simply check if your character turns into one: when she serves as a substitute for yourself (like, is the love interest for your fav character), and the story revolves more around her and her feelings than the ones of the original cast, you can be pretty sure that she's a Mary Sue.

Hehehe By the way, I just read a BOOK that was Mary Sue. *Sob* I'm scarred for life. It's called 'The little white horse' and is more of a Mary Sue than EVERYONE on this site could possibly write.

The Little White Horse, by Elizabeth Goudge. [Set Victorian times] She was perfect in every way, except for a hotheadedness that got her in trouble every now and again. She looked great - her clothes were described intimately, and everyone loved her the minute they spoke with her. www.amazon.com/gp/product/product-description/0142300276/ref=dp_proddesc_0/103-3130146-0177422?%5Fencoding=UTF8&n=283155(The Amazon book description is in there) She got married to a boy she thought she had imagined, sees a unicorn, and she's only a teenager! Though that can be made up for because its the Victorian times. She's an orphan as well - but her tutor loves and cares for her. In the end, everyone lives happily ever after.
