Okay, I got a silly question. What does h/c mean? I've been wondering that ever since I saw it in the board title.

There are no silly questions, just silly or stupid anwers. h/c stands for "hurt and comfort". Hurt a character, make him suffer, then make another character do the comforting.

OK, time for my silly question. Is there any way to go back into your post and insert a smiley? Or can it only be inserted as you go?

Click the 'modify' button in your post. Then you come to the writing screen and can do whatever changes you want to do.

I think she's talking about how if you clickon the smileys it always inserts them at the bottom of the text. I just simply do a cut paste to move them.

Salma's right. Thanks for the solution. It drives me crazy when I can't go back and put one in after I've written something new. Just tried it and it WORKS!!! YESSS.

OK, I have another silly question and I'm full of them. ;D
Why do authors always appologize to their readers for making long chapters? I can understand if the chapter is short or late, but why if it is long??

*long-suffering sigh* In this age of gnat-sized attention spans, an author fears his/her readers may lose interest if they must wade through loads of text. It is also presumably an attempt at humility on the author's part - 'There's a lot here, sorry, I know you don't want to read it' and so on. Honestly, I've never been in that situation (Eh heh...) so I really couldn't say.

My chapters are often about 3500 words, and I know that many writers with a lot shorter chapters, apologize for them. 'Water and Electricity' I posted as one chapter only, because I was quite new to ff.net and didn't know better, it's about 17000 words. 'Choices' are 8500 words, and I posted that in one chapter, too. Those are the only two I feel like they are too long (for one chapter), but otherwise I'm not going to apologize for the size of my chapters. Hopefully it's not the size that's the reason if people continue to read or not.

Me-Nuriko 17,000 words seems like a lot, yes , and even 8500. I must say though that the 8500 words didn't seem that long because the story was so good. I do base my morning reading on word count, saving longer chapters for the afternoon, but I prefer long chapters. More time to get into the story, more description and more character developement and interaction.

I personaly like long chapters, thought I think the chapters I post aren't that long. Average for me would be about 2000 words a chapter.

I hadn't even thought about chapter length till someone told me I would need to split the first part of my WK fic into 2 chapters. It's around 5000 words and growing as I edit. So I guess my question is just how long should a chapter be?

Well, I write very short chapters (1000-3000 words) so it's got to be more than that - I get complaints ^^;;
Really, I think 5000 words is a good length for a chapter - it's really enough to complete a thought, but in the WK fandom attention spans may waver. I suppose, though, that you should at least be consistent. I don't get half as many complaints as I should because I'll do two 2000 word chapters within a few days of each other, so that's like doing a 4000 word chapter. If you span a longer time between updates, they should probably be a bit longer.
