1. Thou shalt get permission from the author/owners and thou shalt respect their wishes. If the author/owners do not endorse fan fiction based on their work, abide by this. If in doubt, do not post thy fan fiction on the Internet.
2. Do thy research. If thou cannot personally get the author/owner's permission then thou shall do thy research on thy author/owners standpoint and abide by it. Thou shalt accept that, at any time, the author/owners of your Fandom can grant or withdraw permission regarding fan fiction. If in doubt, do not post thy fan fiction on the Internet.
3. Respect the wishes of the author/owners of your Fandom. If asked to remove thy fan fiction by the author/owner or their legal representatives, do so immediately and without complaint.
4. Thou shalt not profit from an author/owner's intellectual property unless thou have a legal license/contract/permission in writing from them to do so.
5. Thou shall use disclaimers (State who authored/owns the intellectual property and thy permission status) Clearly give credit where credit is due.
6. Thou may write parodies and satires of an other's intellectual property but get proper legal advice first if thou seek to profit by your satire/parody in any way.
7. Thou shalt not assume that because a particular fandom's fan fiction is tolerated that it means the author/owners have given thee permission to distribute it. If in doubt, do not post thy fan fiction on the Internet.
8. Thou shalt not plagiarize. Anyone. At any time. For any reason. Always credit source material clearly if thou quotes or substantially paraphrases another's work. Always.
9. Thou shalt not post/archive/distribute "slash" (explicit (PG13+) sexual fan fiction) involving real or fictional children aged 17 and under, or 'Real Person Slash' RPS. The internet hath a long and traceable memory & each country hath different legal standards. Thou shalt understand that cultural perceptions and current laws do change to keep pace with advancements in technology, and not always in thy favour. If in doubt, do not post thy slash/RPS on the Internet.
10. Thou shalt not mislead others in regards to an author/owner's legal or moral standpoint regarding the writing or distribution of fan fiction based on their intellectual properties.

What do you think?
Is this a "moral codex" that would work for fanfiction authors?
Would you make changes to it? Leave out a rule or add in a rule?
