While it's not banned books, I thought it would still be interesting:

My childrens Elementary School banned Halloween Parties 10 years ago, so it wouldn't interfere with the Educational Integrity of the day. One Day A Year, and they worry about Educational Integrity and not letting kids be kids.

Halloween Parties Banned? That's a bit extream. Aside from Christmass, every child likes Halloween.

Censorship is an ever-flunctuating constant on the chart of Society. It's a precious balance; if we let people (districts, groups of people, the government) censor too much, we will be the victims of oppression. They will have stifled our freedom of expression.
But if you censor too little, then this society will be going to Hell in a handbasket.
Not that it isn't already, but I digress.
In accordance to books . . . if it gives the school district that important, false sense of control over what goes into our ickle little minds, then I suppose it is necessary. Nevermind that they can hardly keep the drugs out of the schools (or the children inside), but if they can hold on to some semblance of power (of that sweet, sweet lie of control) then I suppose we will have to forgo such interesting reading material in favor of the general wellbeing of our dear, reliable school district.
I, for one, am glad that I'm finished high school. The whole inane hypocrisy of it all sickens me.
Censorship on literature both compelling and meaningful - and yet you have people running around with "ZANE" books. Have any of you every READ that trash? It's mindless porn, written by a mindless douchebag who probably never got laid, and is compensating by poisoning the already-corrupted youth of America.
. . . Pardon. I got a little carried away.
