I am in the preliminary stages of writing a book on a particular college's football history. I was told by the school's licensing company that I would need to submit "financial specifics" such as royalty rate, projections, minimum guarantee, etc., to obtain resources from the school and proceed with my project. Although I have an idea of what "financial specifics" are, I'm not sure what the licensing company and university are looking for. That is, how am I suppose to suggest a royalty rate or a minimum guarantee? This is the first time I've ever even thought of financial specifics and the first book I've attempted to write. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Hi,
I don't know if you realized it or not, but this forum is mostly geared towards fanfiction writing. While many of the regulars here would like to write book someday or also write original fiction, this is probably not the best place to get the information you are looking for. Though i'm sure that if anyone here knows anything they'll let you know.
The other problem you'll have is that our experiences are with fiction instead of non-fiction. I would recommend trying to use one of the history professors at a local university or college as a resource. They will be better able to point you at resources you can use and give you pointers on how to proceed.

Hi! While I don't know much about publishing books, you might find these links useful: www.upublish.com/Under publishing, they'll explain all the steps. While this might not all work for you, it might give you an idea of what you'll have to expect. www.fonerbooks.com/contract.htmThe basics about contracts, royalties etc. You could also ask someone at the university or at the publishers - or maybe seek the help of an agent. I'm sorry that I can't help you... I'm just an amateur writer of fanfiction.

Well, I wish you the best of luck, in any case. Getting published must a real thrill. Outside of all the legal hassles, that is.
