I noticed that there are many people who want a beta or are willing to beta. Here's a thread where you can put up a wanted post or advertise your services.
Note: If you don't see a thread that covers the topic you need help with feel free to start a new thread. ;D

Beta for hire works for... (Humm what do I work for again oh yeah) fresh entertainment.
I have in depth story knowledge of the following stories anime and manga- Inuyasha, Saiyuki, Gravitation, Fruits Basket, and Kare Kano. I know the anime story lines of Ranma 1/2, Evangelion, Fullmetal Alchemist, Getbackers, Oh my goddess, Cowboy Bebop, Someday's dreamer, Wolf's rain, Spiral, Dear boys, Kyou Kara Maou, Prince of Tennis, Chrno Crusade, Samurai Champoo, Naruto, DearS, Angelic Layer, Bleach, Moon Phase, with slight knowledge of Yugioh, Shaman King, Pokemon, and Voltron.
On a manga front I know the english manga's for Vampire Game, Hana Kimi, Demon Diary, Cresent Moon, Shaman king, Alice 19th, Hot Gimmick, Girl Got Game, Parfit Tic, and DNAngel.
I am a story beta that does readings for flow and characterization. If you would like such a person Pm and we will see what we can do.

O.O
Um, therhoda, is the beta thing still on offer? As you may know if you have been following my thread, I am about to re-write everything.
I'm going to go and cry. *WAAA*
But, keeping to the subject, are you willing? It contains insertion of four girls, so you, Salma, and Optimoose will have to help me stop it from Mary-Sueing... if that's a word... ;D

As I said pm me and we will talk. I am not sure what you need in a beta and I would not like to lead you astray, amok maybe but never astray.

elven_dreamer - since you don't react to the PM or the email, would you please be so kind to send me the story as a word file? Or any other text editor format file is okay, too. Thank you! Blood_debt: Hey, what Salma and I are doing isn't just to keep you from creating more Sue.

Apologies. May I add that therhoda, Optimoose, and Salma are helping me greatly improve my writing skills.
;D ... Mary-Sue is actually a nice name...

Heh, uh-oh, seems I have competition in the fanfic-goddesses category. Hey, they definitely deserve it more than I do

blood_debt: oi, we're just normal authors, just like you. There's nothing special there. We got help by other authors in our writing 'carreers' - and what we do today is to share our very limited knowledge about writing. That's all. KarotsaMused: Naw, you'll always remain the Saiyuki-fanfic-goddess. *burns tons of incense and watches it billow out of KarotsaMused screen*

I can act as a beta, both for grammar/style/clarity and (within certain fandoms) for canon/tone/accuracy though I do come with a few disclaimers: 1) I will be harsh and while I will do my best to spare your feelings, ultimately I will be true to whatever it takes to make your story the best it can. (Therhoda can testify to this) 2) My work schedule is not consistent and there are often times that I will have to turn a request for a beta down - even from someone I work with on a regular basis. If I'm working 55 hour weeks, I'm not going to spend what remaining time I have doing proofreading and editing - I get enough of that on the job. 3) I can be slow. Again, this is a function of time. Well, time and the fact that I work better in redlines than online editing so everything has to essentially be done twice - once on paper and then once to enter the changes electronically. Good for thoroughness, bad for getting things done quickly. 4) I'm not big into 'boy's love' or any kind of slash pairings. Hints, overtones, and implications are all fair game but the full blown stories themselves don't appeal to me and I'd rather not deal with it as a beta. Genres I feel comfortable in offering my services in: Anime/Manga: Cowboy Bebop, Fruits Basket, Girl Got Game, Hellsing, Inuyasha, Saiyuki, Witch Hunter Robin, Wolf's Rain. Comics: Older Justice League, Any Legion of Super Heroes, as well as occasional DC properties, especially older Vertigo titles. General Media (books or movies): This will vary and a decision would have to be made on a case by case basis.

*coughcough* woo! Incense! *cough* MsCongeniality - hee, I totally understand your number 1. I repeatedly had to warn p3c before I started in on her fic "Divergence" (should hopefully be on ff.net soon!!) that I would be blunt at times, but always honest. Ultimately, though, being a beta is an act of love. It's just...tough love, sometimes.

KarotsaMused, maybe your computer's on fire!!! I've had incidences of burning myself and others with incense sticks, so I'm an 'expert'. I had to bear with it three days running, and if you have enough sticks, =fire. But I'll add some of my own virtual incense stick an plant them in other boards too *passes round to other authors* Beta-ing? I'm not going to give it a go quite yet, sorry all my hopeful fans (j/k)

ooops! *blush* didnt realise I wasn't replying. Kind of forgot about it in the light of discovering Breakroom. Reading and reading and reading left me no time for writing etc and I forgot about I all. Scatterbrained me. Thanks for your help in betaing, therhoda. Just realised I didn't reply. And to OptiMoose. Tq as well. *smiles*
