There is always a method to my madness, and this is no exception. I'm going to put a scene like this in my fic, and I wasn't sure of the out come as of yet.

Kikyo when she comes back has a streak of ruthlessness that I think would give her a distinct edge over Kagome.
Kagome is too nice to go to some of the extremes that post death Kikyo does.

I'd have to agree with you on that, but in my story 'Tears of Blood', an event changes Kagome's life and the way she views it. On normally circumstances, I would automatically put Kikyo as the victor.

I guess it's a tie between the two so far?

While it's a little hard to think of what exactly Kagome might be with complete miko training, there are numerous points in the series (as far as I've seen) where it's hinted that Kagome not only equals but surpasses Kikyo's power.
Salmastryon: although I agree that spectre Kikyo does have a ruthlessness that Kagome doesn't, the series indicates that Kagome's compassion and protection for others is something that allows her much greater power than the self-minded, vengeful wrath of Kikyo.
If it wasn't for those many hints in the series, though, I'd say that Kikyo might win. Assuming their powers are roughly equal, Kikyo's willingness to go to any lengths would indeed give her an edge over Kagome. As US Civil War general Grant said, "God sides with those with the biggest guns."
(At least, I think it was general Grant.)

I'm inclined to side with Ganheim. That whole Emotional-Strength bit.
Plus, are we talking at-her-prime-still-living Kikyou or doll-of-mud-and-souls Kikyou? Were Kikyou still alive, and perhaps protective of Inuyasha in that sense, perhaps she would be a better match for Kagome. But the vengeful, hollow thing she is at the time that the series takes place, she doesn't have much of a chance.

I second what Karotsa said. Kagome has a lot of raw power, but IIRC the jewel was given to Kikyou in the first place because she was one of the most powerful and capable priestesses and the one best able to purify it. The thing she is now cannot hold a candle to what she once was.

Oh good. Yes, we're talking about dead Kikyo. In the series, Kikyou has more power an knows how to use it. However, in my story, it's three years after the series started and their still looking for the jewel (sort of an alternet ending fic). In that time Kagome, learns more about her miko powers, along with the fact that she gains more power by an unfortunet (sp?) event, yet she doesn't know how to controle it.
In my mind, I think that It will be a draw with power, yet Kagome has more ambition to get Inuyasha.
Anyway, I'm working on getting this story on my site for all to read, because ff.net doesn't like it.

Thanks. I'm working on posting it somewhere. Though, I think I posted some of it on MM.org and just forgot about it. I don't know, I'll have to go check.

I'd like to read it some time. I probably can't now, as it's the deadly "Finals Crunch", and sick family members, but I hope things improve after finals.
