I find this fascinating. A discussion lifted from LJ. Read the comments too. ^^ www.livejournal.com/users/snowyheart/1548.html#cutid1EDIT: Possible spoilers for Burial, which I can give to anyone who asks. But you'll only be spoiled if you're clever enough to deduce more than one thing from the premises we touch upon.

Just another reminder of why I like minekura so much. ;D So much breathe to discuss wonder and explore about. Also, make it very intimidating for me to write fanfiction.

This coloring of the different characters are something very obvious I think. I hadn't thought about Nii and Koumyou, but as for the Sanzo-ikkou, it's one of the first thing my daughter and I discussed when she got me into the world of Saiyuki. Those colors are also one of the things that make me see Hakkai-Gojyo, and Sanzo-Goku. (Note that I didn't do any slash here. ;D )

That was quite the interesting set of musings and speculations. I enjoyed the perspective, but being unfamiliar with Burial Arc (and apallingly unfamiliar even with Nii), I'm sure I missed much of the point.
Even so, it simply highlights Minekura's genius as an artist and mangaka. I think that the hallmark of a truly gifted visual artist, as with a truly gifted writer, is the propensity for including connections and references beyond the obvious so flawlessly that one questions whether it was even intentional. The work then becomes open for myriad interpretations and perceptions, rather than seeming to force any tangible symbolism on the audience. Ah, brilliance.
That, and Snowyheart needs a board...
