More news!
November 21st, 2005 -- New features added. Private Messaging: Registered members can now message each other without revealing or needing one's email address. Messaging link is displayed at the top of every member profile. Messages are delivered via email like our review alert system.
Review Reply: Authors may now reply to signed reviews via a link provided in updated review alert or using the "reply" link displayed next to each signed review. Please note the reply is not displayed on the site but emailed to the reviewer. Only one reply is allowed per signed review. Putting "review responses" within story chapters is now unncessary and more importantly, not allowed.

Wow, they really are at it now! November 24th, 2005 -- Happy Thanksgiving! More features added. Status: A new status/progress property has been added to each story with the following selectable values: In-Progress (default), and Complete. Please login to update your stories. This will help readers find completed entries and allow authors to differentiate their completed works from incomplete ones.
World: Lord of the Rings category is now a test-bed for new story property called "world". LOTR currently has 3 selectable worlds: book, movie, and alternate. In the case with LOTR, the movie can be vastly different from the book and the stories reflect that discourse. This new property is designed to allow writers/readers of these different but similar worlds to coexist peacefully and separately within a single category. If successful, we will expand its usage to other mega-categories. LOTR story authors should login to make sure every entry has the proper world label.
How's that for fancy features? ;P

I actually like using the reply link for answering reviews. I can answer each question the reviewers ask without feeling repetitive. I suppose that an A/N to answer a question that many reviewers have asked, without naming individual reviewers, would still be allowed.
As a reader, I have always enjoyed reading the author's responses and I will miss them when more people stop using them.

More news.... December 5th, 2005 -- Flooding protection has been installed to prevent anonymous users from spamming stories with tons of bogus reviews.
A problem with duplicate story alert emails has been fixed. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- December 4th, 2005 -- Great news for those lamenting the stat reset from our last upgrade. We have recovered most if not all of the stats before the counter reset. Do not be alarmed if you see a drastic jump in story hits as it only means we have recovered your old stats. Please note that as result of our last upgrade, the chance of a future "hit counter" reset is slim to none. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- December 2nd, 2005 -- Seach engine has been upgrade to support the new story status filter.
We have fixed a bug in the display story stats area in which some users saw nothing but a blank page. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- December 1st, 2005 -- Story "hit" stats feature has been upgraded. Story/chapter stats are now permanent without the previous problem of counter resets.

More new features before the year ends... (Heh, seems like this MB is becoming obsolete if they continue with this stuff ;-P)
December 15th, 2005 -- Forum, forums, and your forums. Members that have been with the site since the beginning can reminisce about this forum thing we used to have. Long ago, the site had an official forum per category and the feature was canned simply for the fact there were not enough moderators to tackle the flood of topics and debates.
Forums are making a return with a big twist. All forums are created and managed by registered members. Each registered user can create up to 5 forums. There will not be any official FanFiction.Net forums. All forums are privately owned and moderated by their creators. As with all features, please respect the site rules.
If you have the energy to build and foster a forum community, please login and visit the new forums area. For managers of large C2 communities, forums can be an invaluable tool.
Each forum currently has all the basic features with more, such as "forum alert" and RSS/XML feed, on our to-do list. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- December 9th, 2005 -- Members can now carbon copy, cc, pm messages to themselves for record keeping. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- December 7th, 2005 -- RSS/XML feeds are now available for C2 archives. Please note FanFiction.Net feeds are presented in Atom 1.0 format.

Downtime News!
December 24th -- Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from everyone at FanFiction.Net!
To take advantage of the slow traffic during the holidays, we are planning a long over-due site maintenance on Dec 30th. The upgrade will take place between 1AM to approximately 11PM PST on 12/30. During the time frame, uploading and story editing functions will be disabled.
We have fixed a problem where some profiles displayed mangled bio not matching the one shown within our online editor.
OpenOffice.org has upgraded OpenOffice to version 2.0.1. We recommend everyone to upgrade or install this free word-processing software.

Help! I can't leave a review (even logged in). To everything I get the reply
"Review Denied
Your or someone has already submitted a review to this story/chapter in question from this computer."
Don't know what the problem is. It is only me at home that reads/writes on ff. It can't even be by accident (unless my six year old or three year old has sussed out my password) and even my hubby wouldn't touch my 'beloved' Saiyuki ff pages. And we are the only users of our home pc.
Can someone enlighten me on what I may be doing incorrectly!
- thanks from a very confused zan

Mhm... I'd check your "Review history" and see if you already left a review for that particular chapter. You can only leave one review for a chapter when signed in.
If you haven't left a review according to your review history, you probably should contact the ffnet powers that be and report it to troubleshooting.

Hehe! sorry to get you up so early, (at a guess it must be roughly 8 am or there abouts!)
Yeah! I thought that too (although I had not even read the fic till this morning) so I did do a check on my 'history'. So no, it doesn't show up there.
Will do as you have suggested. And ask them about it. A bit of a mystery.
thanks!

Some news...
March 5th, 2006 -- Due to a software upgrade glitch, it is taking much longer for new entries to appear. Please note this problem will be resolved within the next 24 hours. The login area will be disabled and the site will be in read-only mode from 3/5 10:30PM PST to 3/6 8AM PST. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- March 2nd, 2006 -- Forums can now have moderators. To add a moderator, forum owner/administrator must first login, visit the edit forum screen, and create an invite code for the new moderator. Forum admin should then email/pm/relay the invite code to this user which will then need to visit the "moderation" section under "forums" to activate their moderator role. Moderators are specific to a forum: if you have 10 forums, each forum can have a different group of moderators. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- January 30th, 2006 -- Forum Topic Alert and Forum Thread Alert systems have been added. You can subscribe to a forum and receive an email alert when a new topic is posted or subscribe to a forum topic and be notified when a new post/reply is added to the topic discussion.
As with all alert features, you can disable these alerts completedly via the "alerts" menu after login.

April 27th, 2006 -- Outage warning: On April 29th from 11PM to approximately 2AM the site will be down for a scheduled facility power-grid upgrade. Nothing exciting here. Just replumbing work by electricians.
Our email alert delivery was accidentally suspended for the past 2 days and has since been fixed. Please expect a minor flood of backlogged email alerts while the delivery system catches up.

July 1st, 2006 -- In response to growing abuse, there is now a 30 character length limit on member "Pen Names". If you have an outrageously long name, please shorten it now or we will apply the rule automatically in a few days. This change will only affect less than 1% of all active members.
An advice to all writers: short and concise names are much easier to remember. More is not better when it comes to name recognition.
June 28th, 2006 -- Site submission, document uploading, system has been upgraded to address the intermittent uploading problems experienced by our members late last week.

January 26th, 2007 -- We have retired europe.fanfiction.net and asia.fanfiction.net links. Now, a single url: www.fanfiction.net, will automatically route our users to the closest server whether that be in Europe or Asia. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- January 25th, 2007 -- Due to overwhelming response to the 3 translator contract positions, we will not be accepting new applicants effective today. To everyone that have responded before this announcement, a formal application/requirements will be emailed out within the next 24 hours. We have doubled our Europe capacity and have greatly improved the connection speed of our Asia server. If you are a user from China, Hong Kong, Singapore or any other South-East Asia country you should experience a significant speed boost while using our temporary asia.fanfiction.net link. We will be doubling our Asia capacity within the next 48 hours and soon after that we will be launching a new global service that will automatically route www.fanfiction.net to a web server closest to your location. By the end of next week everyone around the world will enjoy a speed boost with a single unified www.fanfiction.net link. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- January 21st, 2007 -- FanFiction.Net is looking for 3 uniquely qualified translators that are fluent in both English and any of the 3 desired languages: French, German, or Spanish. If you believe you are up to the task or know someone who is, please email support@fanfiction.com for more details. These are paid contract positions. 2007 is the year FanFiction.Net goes global and we need your help. We have updated the top/main menu to ease navigation to category specific pages. Major revisions to the site are currently under way so now is the time send in your suggestions. Please send all feedback to support@fanfiction.com. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- January 14th, 2007 -- Email alerts are now fully functional. There was a hiccup where some alerts over the past 2 weeks were backlogged. Our asia.fanfiction.net mirror is currently not performing up to our expectations. We will be setting up a new asia mirror in Singapore within the next 7 days. Please note our asia mirror is designed for users from China, Hong Kong, Singapore, Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia, and other countries near or in the south-east asia region. Users from Japan, Taiwan, and South Korea have excellent internet connection to the west and should use our primary www.fanfiction.net address. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- January 4th, 2007 -- asia.fanfiction.net has been relocated to a more robust facility in Hong Kong. Due to the December Taiwan quake and subsequent undersea fiber communication cable break, most countries in the pacific rim were severely effected and continues to have limited internet access to the west. The new asia mirror should drastically improve performance for users from China. Please send us your feedbacks to support@fanfiction.com.
