And more news...
June 20th, 2005 -- Hit counters are now available to everyone. A hit is recorded whenever anyone visits your story. We are recording hits for the story itself and for each individual chapter of any multi-chapter story.
Please note that the free hit counter is currently in beta phase and may undergo many changes over the coming weeks. In addition, there is an important difference between the free hit counter that is available to everyone and the enhanced hit counter only available to extra service subscribers: the free hit counter is not persistent meaning the hits could be reset every few weeks or when we perform scheduled maintenance where as the enhanced hit counters will never be reset.

Woooo sounds fun! I'd always been curious. I mean, already knowing who has alerts or favorites on your work felt Big Brotherish. And now...*tents fingers* ... muahahaha...
Hee, actually I think it might be a bit more encouraging to writers, you know? People who don't get many reviews don't have to feel like *zero* people are reading their work. It just happens that those who read it are lazy about reviewing. Could be a good thing.

From the ffnet-main page:
June 22nd, 2005 -- If you use a screen reader to access the internet and would like to help FanFiction.Net make the site more accessible to the blind community, please email support@fanfiction.net with subject "FanFiction Access" and in the body of the email, please include the brand/model of the screen reader you use and the browser. We are looking to have a closed testing group composed of only users that use screen readers via voice or braille to help us resolve any current and future accessibility issue. If this message applies to you, we highly encourage you to join this effort. We will be allocating significant time over the next few weeks to make this is a success.
We would like to address a popular question regarding story hit counters: What is a "hit"? Hit is a measurement of the number of visitors that went to your story page. However, a hit doesn't mean the reader actually read the story. A hit just means someone went to your story page. Whether they read the story in its entirety cannot be determined with the hit count. Likewise, a hit count also does not represent the number of unique users that visited your stories. If the same user happen to visit your story twice in the same day, 2 hits will be recorded.

Heh, thanks. It's not like there's any big effort going into this. I mean, I just copy-paste the stuff from the ffnet index page More news! <i> June 27th, 2005 -- In addition to story hit counters, we are introducing a hit counter for user profile. The profile counter records how many people visited your public profile page. The new stat is displayed under Stats » Users. A problem where C2 title and summaries are being cut-off during editing has been fixed. C2 managers should login to make sure everything is in order.</i>

The main page says something about them unveiling a new search engine this week... So maybe they are currently pulling pages big time to work in the new URLs? No idea... The error message I get for logging in is that either the page doesn't exist or that there's a server overload. I guess all you can do is waiting a couple of hours and try again, or leave an anonymous review.

July 11th, 2005 -- We have upgraded the new search engine to include partial match ability for pen names and date range search for stories. Entering a keyword of "cry" for author search will now return matches for names such as "Crystal". The story date range search allows one to only display the results between two dates with configurable date types of published and last updated. The month fields are optional for the range option. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- July 10th, 2005 -- We are pleased to unveil a brand new search engine for FanFiction.Net. The difference between the new search and the old is night and day with more improvements already on the drawing board. In addition to the new search, we will finally introduce the most requested feature in the coming week. Stay tuned. So try out the new search tool...

ffnet reports two error-fixes:
<i> July 15th, 2005 -- Following bugs have been fixed: 1. In story listings, using the "enter" key within the page jump field always brought you to the first page regardless of what you wanted. 2. The content guidelines page after login has been redesigned to fix an error where for some users the system never remembers the acceptance action: prompting the same warning over and over. </i>

More news!
August 1st, 2005 -- Several related upgrades:
1. C2s are now unrestricted. Previously, only K through T rated entries are allowed in C2 archives. 2. You may now configure an "Alert Rating Restriction" for C2 and Author alerts. For example, you can configure our site to only send out C2 and Author alerts for stories rated K through T. 3. A rating filter has been added to the C2 archive page. 4. C2 archive links have changed. Please update your C2 archive bookmarks.

News!
October 28th, 2005 -- Breaking from site tradition of unleashing new features as surprises, this news update will address the future of FanFiction.Net as far as the next 2 months are concerned.
Features on the drawing board.
1. XML/RSS feeds for Just In and C2 communities.
2. Stats gathering will be upgraded so everyone will have the benefit that was once only enjoyed by support service members: permanent and real-time stats. The current stats system for regular members is volatile and could be reset at any time.
3. A new beta-reader (editor) to writer matching service/community. Now an interesting history behind this feature. A fully functional beta-reading site was completed over a span over several months by FanFiction.Net staff back in late 2002. In an ironic twist, the New Year 2003 launch for the site was canceled because the same people decided though it was technically nice, it was just too difficult to use. Hopefully we will not make the same mistake twice. Rather than piling on features this time, we will model it after a rock.
On a parting note, we have fixed a bug which can cause some html file uploads to fail.

Just thought you'd like to know...
November 5th, 2005 -- A facility wide power outage caused extensive disruption to FanFiction.Net services for much of yesterday and we are just catching up right now. All essential services have returned to normal though you might see some erroneous "story not found" messages for some new entries over the course of today.
Email Alerts are currently disabled and all back-logged alerts will mailed out later today. As such, please be prepared for a mini-flood of email alerts within the next 24 hours.
The power outage did however reset all "live stats" kept for stories, chapters, and profiles. Support Service stats are not effected. Please note we warned of this scenario when the stats feature was announced. We are currently in prepration to launch a better live stats upgrade that can survive power outage and other problems.

November 17th, 2005 -- Support.FanFiction.Net is now open. The new support area has been created to improve response time to user problems, new category/character list requests, and general bug reports. Please note the support area is only available to registered members.
Is that good news, or bad news? ;P
