Hello, It is time for a little introduction of myself. I will not go into details and bore you to death with it. Anyway, I started writing only a few month ago and at the moment I only write LOTR non slash fics. Maybe, in some time I will add some other topics. I still do not know. *shrugs* So if you want to talk about my stories, here is the place, feel free to ask, but do not expect answers concerning the ends of my WIP stories. *LOL* At the moment I'm writing on chapter 9 of "Moonlight and Shadow" and on a new story with the working title "Alone".

Welcome. I'm a non-slasher myself, so... 'More power to you' or how they say. LOTR... I have to admit that it didn't manage to capture me as a fandom. Out of curiousity, what attracts you to it?

Hey OptiMoose, welcome to my den. Good to see that I'm not the only non slasher here. ;-) What attracts me to LOTR? Good question...hmm... let me see. I think it is the whole world Professor Tolkien created such a long time ago. The first time I read the books I found them boring to no end. Okay I was only 11 at that time. ;D When I read them later again, the story gripped me like no other before. Yes, I have a lot of favourite books but not a single one attracts me the way LOTR does. Maybe it is only this simple story about good versus evil. Maybe it is the characters. Maybe it is the thought that Professor Tolkien first invented a whole new language before he started to write this books. Maybe it is the way he mingled well known tales of old like the "Edda" or the german tale of "Rhinegold" and many others to a unique universe that started a whole new genre of writing. Professor Tolkiens LOTR was the beginning of fantasy literature as we all know it now. If you look at newer fantasy novels you can always find things in it, which Tolkien made up for LOTR the first time. Without LOTR,fantasy literature would not be the same as it is now, if it ever could have come to existence without it. LOTR made it possible for a lot of writers to go into public with their works. *sigh* I'm rambling. *LOL* Okay back to topic. I think I like the thought that even the smallest person can change the world if it has the will to do it. Maybe that makes us more significant than we think. And I like the way that the nine walkers help each other without asking what they will earn for doing it. The are there for each other no matter how dire the situation is. Me thinks that this is the essence of the books. Help when you can help and do not ask what you will get for it. Just do it. Althelas

Hey girl, good to see you here. ;D A fellow LotR non-slasher, and someone I kinda know at that. How cool.
I'm a fan of the littlest person can change the world, too, but its the bonds of friendship that draw me to LotR.
cheers!

Wow, it seems that LOTR has really captured your heart. I started reading it, but my vocabulary is not sufficient. I started with "Journey to the West", which is much simpler in its vocabulary, but extremly intense in the descriptive part. Those old Chinese guys sure knew how to write. I've seen that Tolkien created a lot of extra material for LOTR. That completely fascinated me. I often take his reference material as an idea for how to create my own universes for novels. What do you think about the LOTR movies? Did they cfapture the spirit of the books?

@kellen Hi girl, good to see you here. *hugs* ;D I agree with you. Friendship is the most important factor in the books. Without the friendship of his fellows, Frodo would have never been able to end his "mission". kanshuOh yes, I love the movies. But I have to admit that I was a bit anoyed when TTT came out. FOTR was awesome. I sat in the cinema and could not believe what I saw. Finally one unknown filmmaker achieved what no other could handle for over 30 years. And now I saw M-E coming to life and could watch the whole story unfold in front of my eyes. FOTR left me breathless and I bowed to PJ. TTT had so much changes in it I could barely recognize the book behind the battles. I know the second part is always the most ungrateful, nothing really happens and it is supposed to build up the place for the final chapter but the theatrical version left so much out and added some things that were not necessary. The extended version was way better, but I still hope for another edition one day. ROTK ... whaaaaaa.... what a movie. It was so emotional even with the additions PJ made in it and the things he left out. But I think the extended version will blow me out of my couch or the seat in the cinema, should they ever come to cinemas in my country. I never had watched a movie that left me in a sea of tears like ROTK did. The tears started to flow from the moment little Eldarion made his appearance and I could not stop them the whole rest of the movie. Everytime I thought "okay you are under control" another scene brought me back to crying like a baby. Believe me, you can ask my freinds, they will tell you what a cry baby I had been over this 3 and a half hours. If you want to start reading LOTR begin with "The Hobbit" it is muche easier to read and it gives you a first glimpse of M-E. You will enjoy that little book. Althelas

Hi!
Can I post here even if I write slash *hides and looks from around the corner shyly*. Anyway I write other things than slash, too, and I love a good smarm story.
I'm a big fan of 'The Fellowship of the Ring' as the books are called. (At least that's t what they were called when I started to read them.) I have read them about twenty times, and the first time I was eleven like you, Althelas. The difference is I loved them immediatley. Like Kellen it's the bonds of friendship that made me fall in love with them. I would never write a slash in this fandom, it feels terribly wrong to do so.

"The Hobbit" was one of my favorite books growing up. It still has a cherished spot in my heart today. I'm embaressed to admit I've read fellowship three times but have yet to get through two towers. My friend recently returned my copies of the books to me so hopefully this time I'll get through the whole thing with out getting bogged down.
While I don't consider myself a non-slasher, there are some series in which I don't like to read slash. LotR being one of them. I gave up long ago on LotR fanfiction since all the non-slash stuff I found seemed to be paroedy or Mary Sue fics. I'll have to give your fic a read.

Hi Me-Nuriko don't be afraid. Here will no one kill you. ;D I read slash stories but I do not write them. And , no, I have never read a LOTR slash story. I agree totally with you , LOTR slash feels so wrong. Once I treid to read one single story. But I could not go on with it. I have to admit that I love anime slash stories, at least most of the one I have read so far. At the moment my favourites are Weiss Kreuz and Inu-yasha. Still I do not like explicit sex scenes, but I like the way the guys nseak around each other, before one dares to talk about his feelings. I really love this. This kind of stuff is boring with M/F but I love it in the M/M pairings.

He Salmasthyron, welcome, believe me there are a lot more stories for LOTR than the parodies or the MS. If you want to read very good stories (angst, humour not parody, dramas ) check out this group:http://groups.yahoo.com/group/aragorn-legolas/ A lot of wonderful writers and stories. Yopu can also check this site : www.aragorn-legolas.5u.com/main1.html*Shameless advertising* And before you ask, no it is not my site. ;D This site is the reason why I started to write stories. Aragornwriter, Trinkadawn, Cassia, M.J. Emery are authors I can only recommend if you like angst stories. @aragornwriter hey lady, good to see you here. ;D And yes I recommended your stories, so don't glare at me. I know you do it. *LOL*

Althelas, I feel the same about Saiyuki (which is what I'm writing) as you feel about LOTR - slash just doesn't work for me, no matter how hard I try, I can't see any of them in a pairing. I do have "The Hobbit", but I have similar problems with that. Some sentences, I have to read two or three times to understand them. What I like about Tolkien is how he manages to describe that world and breath life into it. It's almost like a picture. Of the movies, I have only seen the first... but the characters were... detached. I can't describe it any better. They failed to transmit the feeling. I guess I'm picky (or rather, weird) when it comes to such things. Do you have a favorite character? And what makes the character interesting for you?

You did not like the movies? Maybe you should watch them a second and a third time. jk Theere are a lot of people who think this way, but I think PJ had made a great choice with each and every actor in the movies, I liked them all. Okay Frodo was way too young, but who wanted to see Danny DeVito running through Middle Earth? Yes the way Tolkien brought this world to life and how he described every detail, it is amazing. I do not know Sayuki can you explain it to me? Maybe I should take a look at your stories for a first impression. Yes I have a favourite character. It is an elf. And before you ask ...I can hear you groan.... no he is not in the movies. Hehe, got you! *LOL* It is Glorfindel. This character is so unique and I was very disapointed that he was not in the movies. He was the lord of the House of the Golden Flower in Godolin during the first age. He died in a fight with a Balrog when the city had been under siege. Tolkien himself did not know if the Glorfindel of Gondolin was the same as the Glorfindel of Imladris, but hs son found s short note in one of the professors books that Tolkien thought that it seemed that it was the same elf. This makes Glorfindel to the only elf who was ever granted the gift of rebirth and chose to come back to M-E instead of stying in Valinor. There is close to none information about him and his life in Gondolin, so there is a lot of space for the imagination to go wild. And that is what I did in my short stories. ;D I will continue them from time to time. As I said before I write on a sequel to "Fall" and "Father" but it will take some more time b/c i first have to finish chapter 9 of "Moonlight" before my readers are going to kill me after I have left them with a very evil cliffie. *veg*

Saiyuki... Saiyuki is hard to explain. Basically, the story revolves around four young men who are on their way from the east of a country named "Paradise", to the west (India), to stop the revival of a dangerous demon king. The revival has caused almost all demons in "Paradise" to go nuts... Sounds boring? Well, the story is more about character developement than anything else. Each of the lead characters has their own share of bad stuff to carry and deal with. I think, it's best explained with this (blatanly stolen from the article description of ebay's "bestdvd_com" trader):
ONE MORE TIME, WITH FEELING!! They’re loud! They’re obnoxious! And they stir up trouble whether they go! And hey, we’re just talking about the GOOD guys here! Genjo Sanzo, Son Goku, Cho Hakkai and Sha Gojyo are the gang of mismatched misfits out on a mission to stop an evil Bull demon king from resurrection. And while demons feared and humans revered, these four really couldn’t care less what the world thinks! Yes, people DO get pretty weird ideas and expectations of you when you exterminate a couple of lowlifes here and there; never mind that THEY are the ones being hunted, or that they’ve got their own issues to deal with, or that THIS Sanzo really doesn’t give a damn - Sanzo and company are here with a vengeance, so you’d better stay…or stay out of their way! Based on a loose (and we DO MEAN LOOSE!) adaptation of the classic Chinese story Journey to the west, Reload picks up where it left off in the original Saiyuki series (the anime was screened on AXN). The foursome, consisting of the short fused priest, the naïve and “I’m hungry!” boy, the charismatic gentleman and the skirt chasing redhead are once again thrown into new circumstances which tests their friendship, skills (and patience)! With old nemesis still hot on their trail and new ones lining their paths, this is one title you cannot afford to miss! GENJO SANZO Sanzo has an attitude problem. More specifically, he has a PROBLEM with EVERYONE ELSE’S attitude. A foul-mouthed priest with a quick temper, he never hesitates to use his gun to make people see things his way. Raised in a monastery since young, he was to succeed his mentor and christened “Sanzo” ( one of the highest ranking titles to be bestowed to their order ) after his teacher (the previous Sanzo) was murdered by demons. Thus, we are able to conclude 2 things: One, the reputation of Sanzo actually precedes the man himself, and two, monastery life has obviously done SQUAT for THIS Sanzo, who gambles, drinks, smokes and swears excessively. The only human and assumed leader among the four and entrusted to save the world blah blah blah… Sanzo will have you know that he’s just trying his best to survive in a world gone wrong. Frankly, his obligations irritate him. Demons irritate him. Worshippers irritate him. His three travelling companions REALLY irritate him, and heck, even talk of him irritates…well, you get the idea. But if you don’t believe us, hey, by all means, talk to the gun. Just don’t say we didn’t warn you! SON GOKU Technically speaking, Goku is the “kid” amongst the four. Technically, because if we go by man-years he’s been in the world longer than anyone else! Imprisoned by the gods in a mountain a long, long time ago, he was finally freed by Sanzo (many, many, many years later). The fact that he’s gone without food for such a long time may be the reason why this ageless lad is constantly hungry and clamouring for something to eat. Hyperactive, somewhat naïve and possessing a child-like innocence, Goku revels in delight when he finds a good opponent to battle with and is constantly at logger-heads with the resident redhead Gojyo (mostly over food), which of course becomes a source of irritation for a certain priest. Despite his appearance and the fact that his full demonic powers are actually constrained by the golden headband he sports (which also serves to preserve his sanity), he is nevertheless, still a very strong and skilled fighter. And if you tick him off, be prepared for a rude awakening! CHO HAKKAI Cho Hakkai is perhaps the most diplomatic of the lot. A gentleman at all times and the peacemaker among the group, it makes one wonder what such a cultured, refined individual is actually doing hanging around a bunch of “firecrackers” like Sanzo, Goku, and Gojyo! Behind that quiet, contemplative demeanour however, lies a violent and sad past which the man was once part of - Hakkai used to be fully human, but after a demon had caused his sister (also lover) to commit suicide, in a maddening rage he had gone on a killing rampage and slain the demon’s entire clan which numbered by the thousands, damning him to be cursed as a demon himself. Now reformed and put under Sanzo’s “unwilling” charge, his gentle smile only serves to add to the enigma of the true nature of this man. That is not to say that the now peace loving Hakkai’s a push-over….far from it, he’s never once been beaten in a game of Poker (and yet strangely, that has never stopped the others from trying to challenge him), and the man always has his own subtle way of expressing his displeasure…meant in the nicest possible way, naturally. SHA GOJYO Gojyo is a lover. He loves life! He loves women! He loves to drink! He loves women! He loves to gamble! He loves women! He loves his fights! (And did we mention he loves women?) A “half-breed” by birth, Gojyo is no stranger to “standing-out” in a crowd (those of mixed parentage are often marked by red hair). Despite his rough childhood, Gojyo didn’t turn out to become a sulky and anti-social person. Instead, it probably strengthened his resolve to live life to the fullest! He also enjoys picking on Goku (Why? Because he can!) and his flamboyant ways inject much needed fun into the group, which of course irritates a certain priest (are we sensing a pattern yet?). True, Gojyo and Sanzo often clash with each other because they belong to extreme ends of a personality chart, but they share more in common than one would think, and for all his idiosyncrasies, Gojyo is loyal to his friends to the very end.
Basically, Saiyuki uses the same tale as "Dragonball" as a "source". Danny DeVito as Frodo? Mmm... actually, that would've been quite interesting. I think he's a great actor when it comes to the more serious stuff. Mmm... your choice of fav character sounds interesting. If I ever work up the courage again to read LOTR, I'll look out for ths guy.
