Yeah...what it was was 2 volumes of the original DVDs in one. It came out to be about half the price of the original DVDs.
I watched the other two eps on the first volume of Gunlock and it got a little better, but I agree about them keeping close to the manga.
I seriously want to cosplay youkai Hakkai. So badly do I want to, but the only thing keeping me from doing it right now is the ears and the markings. I'd have a hell of a time trying to draw all of that on myself.
Heh...don't talk to me about cosplaying hot outfits in the summer - my Preventer jacket is fully lined and I was wandering around outside in early July. That's one of the things that kept me indoors.

Ahaha! Yes, cosplaying in the summer...aah! the memories. Not quite the same but, I did a bit of medieval re-enactment way back when I was at Uni. High season being the summer, and wandering around in layers of authentic woolen clothes was heavy going! So if you want a laugh and have a look at some 'poseurs' extraodinaire...follow the link www.paisleyninja.com/modules.php?set_albumName=Medieval-93&id=med062&op=modload&name=gallery&file=index&include=view_photo.php Plus if you were 'fighting' and had to wear a padded jack and armor as well... Oooh! but if you ever cosplay Hakkai...pictures please! ps- hope you don't mind me posting this link up here! Do say, I will take them down then!

Double Barrel was such a good deal but I had already bought all the DVD's by the time they started to come out. No one at my Suncoast was a Saiyuki fan so when I asked them for a date for the first release for RELOAD, they gave me the first release date for DB and I didn't know what that was so I went on line to find out (I thought maybe they were re-naming the series for US release).
Ah, RELOAD and Gunlock DVDs...do you watch them in English or Japanese? I used to like the English voices when ADV had the series, but the Geneon VA are terrible (IMHO). At the convention they showed the first 3 Gunlock episodes and everyone cheered when the person running the DVD player went to set up and chose Japanese with sub-titles instead of English. You know, even the horrible second episode (well, only 1/2 of it is *silly*, the Kou part is good) was fun with a roomful of fans laughing at the bears' antics and Gojyo. They accidentally started playing the fourth episode, the one where Goku fights Kou and the others are in Zakarou's world but had to turn it off because they were only allowed to show the first 3 episodes. We begged but she wouldn't relent.
And I second zan on wanting to see a picture of Youkai/Hakkai if you do play him.

Ouchy...that's why I can't bring myself to do some cosplays - way too many layers for cons during the summer. But to be fair, here's a link to my cosplay.com gallery. I watch them subbed because I cannot stand the voices for Reload and Gunlock, but I've forced myself recently to try and get use to their English voices because my mother won't watch anything subbed and if I want her to help me with the costumes...well, it's a small sacrifice. On a side note...chapter 4 of Away From Me is posted.

Wow! You look good in the Duo uniform! Reminscent of Claudia Christian in B5. . I like the Riku wig. Soft. By the way I don't know any of these characters, but the costumes actually look wearable, and natural. A nice touch! So Kudos to you (or your mother, ) LOL. XD zan out!

Thanks for sharing your pictures. I don't know the series either, well except for Full Metal Alchemist, but the costumes look great. I've wanted to check out Gundam for quite a while.
Your Mom might appreciate the English voices. If she hasn't heard the Japanese ones and fallen in love with them, then she might be able to tolerate them. I find I can watch even some of the worst VA if I haven't had a chance to hear the Japanese seiyuu first. But I really think this group is just terrible. Even my husband can't stand to watch them for more than 10 minutes and when we were at the convention he cheered along with me when they selected Japanese instead of English for the episodes they were showing. Besides, what would Saiyuki be without Ishida Akira and his absolutely perfect Hakkai? (and don't you just love the way he says Gojyo's name??)

Mmm...yes...fangirl moment... "Gojyo-o" Yes I must admit I do want to check out Gundam for purely fangirl reasons....Akira Ishida is Athrun Zala.

I recommend Gundam Wing if you want at least 5 purely fangirl reasons: Heero Yuy, Duo Maxwell, Trowa Barton, Quatre Raberba Winner, and Chang Wufei.
My mother and I work together to make the costumes since it's more than just mine...that Hughes and Fuery that were with me...with the exception of the gold braid and the ribbons on the front, we made both of those costumes (well, just look at Fuery to get an idea of what parts we made). We're still holding Heero's Preventer jacket, and we'll be making Wufei's. Plus on top of my Hakkai outfit for this year, we are also working on Sanzo's and possibly helping out the Goku in my group. *sniff* Still missing Gojyo.
Yeah, I know what you mean about the VAs...I so loved the first season English VAs. I'm mad at Geneon now.

I had been so happy when I had heard Geneon had the rights to RELOAD. After all, they had sponsored the show in Japan and I figured they would do an accurate translation of the dialog. I really didn't realize that it would mean all new VA. I don't think that I EVER thought they could be so horrible.
Is Gundam Wing the best of the Gundam series? I used to read a website that loved how Toshihiko Seki could go from stern Genjyo Sanzo to Duo Maxwell with seemingly no effort. But like zan, sometimes what initially draws me to check out a series is the seiyuu that are in it and Gundam Seed has 4 of my favorites.
As for sewing, I have absolutely no abilities in that area, but I can appreciate how difficult a job it is. At Otakon there was a pretty decent Sanzo and Kami-sama wandering around, as well as a Kou and Yaone (unfortunately I didn't get their pictures). The year before there had been several Sanzos, Goku's, one Hakkai and Gojyo, a Homura and a Nii. Compared to the other series represented, this was nothing. We need more Saiyuki. ;D

*L* I see a lot of Gundam Wing cosplayers who don't even try, but I'm gonna stop there since I save my commentary for another board.
Um...you'll have people argue until they're 6' under which series is better. What works with GW is that it's AU from all the other Gundam series so it stands on it's own. I haven't gotten into any other series, though I know people who love Gundam SEED. It was my first anime fandom and will always hold a special place in my dark, cold heart.
Heh, don't mind me...just having a really rough time right now. Speaking of, I gotta run to try and get ahold of my mechanic again and get my sorry tail to class.
Anyway, I really do recommend GW to people. You may wish to kill Relena, but I think most of us have that knee jerk reaction (and to think...she's less annoying in English) at least at first. By Endless Waltz (movie/OVA for GW) she's actually not annoying to the point where I'm aiming my old, original Nintendo gun (remember Duck Hunt?) at the TV.

I may just have to watch Gundam Wing now. A Weiss Kreuz AU that I REALLY love (It has about 10 different stories in that universe.) has just started a cross-over using the Gundam Wing and Full Metal Alchemist characters. For her writing it isn't necessary to know the original characters (after all, I read the WK AU without ever having seen any WK (which was quickly corrected, but in a way I loved her creations more)), but it is fun to see what they are building off of.
Hope all is well for you. What classes are you taking?

Video Techniques/Studio I, Scriptwriting, and Academic Writing...yeah, I know, not very descriptive. Studio I is fun, but I kinda wanna get into a radio class just to see how I like that.
Hm...I should read that fic. Got a link?

The Shadows Arc is really wonderful. There is a lot of sex in it and it is rated for adults, so I will have to send you the link through the PM.

Awesome!
Anyway, I'm stuck on chapter 5 right now for AFM...so annoyed. Starting to regret bringing another of my OCs to the forefront to play opposite Duo, but I wanted to offset the seriousness of the beginning of the chapter with something a bit lighter and bring a little more complexity to the story, but me and my dumb ideas...
