Here's an outline for a Ren and Stimpy/Gadget Hackwrench crossover. I've decided to write this as an outline; I want to turn this into a fancomic, and give the artist a chance to contribute to the story by figuring out a way to depict the gags--which is kind of what storyboard artists do when working from a script. I need critiques on:
* whether or not I kept the characters "in character"
* whether or not the gags would be funny and if an artist could depict them in a funny way--I'd like to prove that a writer can use words to depict funny animated gags.
* whether or not this should be a comic. I've been told that you can get sued for writing a continuing comic, but not for a one-shot comic.
* what I don't want: anybody saying that these characters don't belong together.
REN AND STIMPY MEET GADGET/TOKEN FEMALE EPISODE
Episode begins with Ren and Stimpy having breakfast. Stimpy is cooking scrambled eggs. Ren eats them, and wonders why they’re so crunchy. Stimpy shows him a bucket with dead bugs on the bottom: Stimpy scraped them off and put them in the eggs. Ren smacks Stimpy on the head with the bucket.
Then the doorbell rings–it’s the mailman, with a letter from the show’s producers. R/S are ordered to hire a female character because the show needs to appeal to females (shot of R/S in filthy T-shirts with lots of armpit hair and stench lines coming off of them).
So R/S hold auditions for a female character in the front yard. Mrs. Buttloaves and a female lummox are the first ones; they’re rejected as being too “manly,” and they each do harm to the boys. Then Gadget shows up; she’s been looking for a job for a long time. She’s cute, friendly, and can do household repairs–“and it looks like this place really needs it”–shot of house in disrepair. Ren falls in love with her, and hires her without a second thought.
Next day: Stimpy’s cooking breakfast again; this time it’s crepes suzette, filled with seafood. Ren eats it, then finds out the seafood is crabs–which he’s allergic to. Ren smacks Stimpy, then Gadget smacks him! She doesn’t like abuse, and she warns Ren, “If you hit him again, I’ll hit you harder.” Ren gulps.
Gadget starts in on repairing the kitchen sink. Ren is looking at her butt. Stimpy walks in and offers to help; he will help remove a clog with a plunger. Instead of the plunger, he grabs Ren, and starts plunging with Ren’s head. Stimpy gets Mr. Horse out of the drain. Ren starts hitting Stimpy with a piece of the counter; Gadget hits Ren with her monkey wrench. Ren’s eyes crack, and little flying Rens hatch out and fly away.
Breakfast time again. Ren’s really mad this time. Stimpy’s cooking breakfast again; Ren gets paranoid. “What is it this time, huh? Wasps on toast? Fish eggs and bacon?” Finally, Ren’s about to hit Stimpy, when Gadget puts him in a wrestling hold. Ren breaks free, and the two of them start pounding on each other. Finally, they make so much noise that the Man and Wife call the cops. Ren and Gadget are arrested.
Ren and Gadget are in adjoining cells at the jail. Stimpy tells them the good news; the show’s a hit with the ladies, who like Gadget’s assertiveness. Stimpy gives them breakfast; it’s a bucket of powdered milk with skunk larvae! Ren pours the stuff over Stimpy’s head; Gadget bangs Stimpy on the head with the bucket!
