Not that I dislike Saiyuki or anything, *huggles a certain red head* but I'm interested in hearing about other series. I also know that I'm not the only one here that watches something other than Saiyuki. So, how about some plot bunnies that aren't Saiyuki. Anyone care to share?

Mmm... well, if anyone watches Ranma 1/2, I have an interesting idea.
Ranma: Escaped slave. He is taken in by Akane and family, in a nearby village beholden to the person who was his lord. Ranma has been enslaved since he was a small child, and his master forced Ranma to turn into a girl for his 'pleasures' after finding out what Ranma turns into. Ranma's father killed the master, giving his son a chance to escape, but was soon overpowered by guards and executed by the Lord's son. The son is Kuno, and determined to find Ranma and fufill his father's last wish- to burn Ranma on a pyre with his corpse.
Ranma no longer knows whether his original gender was boy or girl and feels weird in both. Romance between he and anyone can be done according to the author's wishes.
Ryoga: Akane's would-be boyfriend, as per usual, except they are semi-courting.
It's rather rough at the moment, I meant to write it but I want to concentrate on one fic. If any more details are needed, I'll add them, or they can be changed.
Howzat for an idea? I'm rather proud of it *hugs it*

Good question. I didn't think of that... ummm...
AU, most likely... I hope its not in modern day Japan... I'm pretty sure slavery isn't encouraged anywhere now... is it? O.O''

True, except a remote maybe somewhere in the oh-so-distant continent of Africa. Why I think that I don't know...I doubt it. Slavery is over, I hope, though everything is possible in the wonderful world of disn...I mean, fanfiction. *grin* See, my computer is next to the TV and my brother's always watchin it...
I don't know much about Ranma1/2 (don't watch it) but that sounds interesting....and yes, very AU.

Well, Ranma stopped in 1996, so its a little outdated, but still remotely related to modern day Japan, but its quite traditionalistic, and uncrowded (anime, not manga). Doesn't anyone else have rampant bunnies chewing away at their vegetables?

Yes, I do have a couple of random "Tactics" plotbunnies hopping around after reading the first manga. Though, right now most of them are more or less in the realms of crossover with Saiyuki. Kantarou could be from Tougenkyou, after all... As for the slave AU, out of my own experience as a writer, a slave AU can be pretty tricky if you are working in a universe that doesn't know slavery. If you have a culture built on slaves (take ancient Rome, or ancient Egypt), you'll notice that the "slaves" status gave the owner all rights, but also, that owning a slave was a privilege of sorts, and slaves were usually treated like valuable 'equipment'. Of course, things changed with 'modern slavery', but that is because you have machines vs people doing the work. A slave needs food and shelter, and even if you work a slave hard, they need time to sleep - otherwise, you'll have a dead body to get rid of. You need oversseers and other means to keep people from escaping. There has to be a 'market' where you can buy human lives, or you need people who bring you their kin for money. Plus, if your country's constitution/law system doesn't allow slavery, you will get into trouble with law enforcement sooner or later. That was the reason why the slaves in "Slaves of Fate" receive a "branding" bracelet, and why there's a certain procedure to follow. It explains why the SMP have a union, and why a legal system can sentence people to become slaves for crimes comitted (or money not paid back). And just like there are animal rights groups freeing animals from laboratories, you'll have human rights groups freeing slaves (of course, the comparision lacks scale on the extreme, but just to give you an example). So, for your Ranma idea to work... I have another question: What does the love between a slave and a free person mean? Can Ranma ever be freed? How does life as a slave differ from life as a free person (like, what are the responsibilities of a free person, what are the ones of a slave, taxes, earning money, owning/renting a place, can a slave even legally buy anything for himself?)

Um... I didn't really think it out, I guess it's up to whoever writes it. However, I was fishing along the lines of serfdom- total nobodies, property to their masters, but can be freed by higher authorities. Freemen would be more like semi-slaves, owing allegiance, but allowed to own small plots of land. Doesn't anyone want this idea? Huggles poor lonesome idea (which, may I add, is crying it's eyes out because of rejection )

All good points from OptiMoose there (as usual ) You guys are just too good. Awwww, don't cry...uh...Poor Lonesome Idea. >.< It'll all be okay soon. Well, utter serfdom is ok I guess.(In a story that is. I am very anti-slave, anti-racial/gender discrimination...) As in medieval type stuff? Feudal system and all that crap?

I was thinking something like that. Then it's very easy to work on.

Yeah..with all the goddamn history we did on that in year 7.... people afraid of hell? Send Mrs Loh there. I reckon that would be a pretty good idea. I'd attempt writing it, but I don't watch Ranma 1/2 and the only fandoms I "do" are Saiyuki, Lord of the Rings and sometimes Harry Potter, which I only read. Saiyuki = taken. "Slaves of Fate" one of my fav stories. LotR = is it just me, or do the Fellowship as slaves seem...out? Wrong? Particularly the King and the Prince, and the Istari. And who'd be the enslaver? Sauron? Out of place, in my view. And Saruman just doesn't work either. It would be a good idea, though. The whole gender-thingy wouldn't work in those either. But you should try write it. Someone. Just make it so AU that you can describe everything to me. I know almost nothing about Ranma 1/2.

Well, I'd be willing to co-write it, or if no one takes it, I'll eventually take it up - in about a year. I want to finish Balancing the Worlds and Sorceress of Vampyr first. And type up my Ranma one-shot, and the Halloween Saiyuki. I'm a typer as slow as hell, so it will take me some time. I get distracted easily too - see, I'm supposed to be typing right now.
