Okay, so I was watching my Japanese Saiyuki DVDs (yaay) for the first time today, and I had some confusion regarding Gyumaoh's wife--this first one, Kougaiji's mother. HELP ME. In the anime, they refer to her as "a rasetsu," while in the manga, she is "Rasetsuno." I read the manga first, so I just assumed it was her name. But since it was used like a generalization in the anime, I can only think that it simply means something like "demon." Can anyone clue me in? I'm lost.

It's most likely a matter of prounciation. In Japanese language, the end syllables are often swallowed or merged together. For example, "doushite" is pronounced as 'dushte", "desu" as "des", "-mashita" as "-mashta".
