I guess we're a little more crazy here in Italy. *g*
If I think about it, many of the kids here have sex when they're 15-16...
As for teens reading "adult" material... let's just say my mom is very against it, and has this idea that I am completely innocent. She used to ban books and tell me that they were not my reading level. Of course, I read them anyway, and I don't think it's affected me in any way. I think 15 and above is okay; younger kids don't really understand what is really happening and can't tell truth from fiction.
Of course, my mom *was* pretty open whenever I had any funny questions to ask. I didn't though, since I was shy. I ended up researching on the internet. *g*
I think it all depends on culture, but I also think it's wrong to make anything seem taboo because kids will just want it more, if you know what I mean. If I'm making any sense.
Can you tell I've had a hard day? I can't think properly.

You energetic Italians! ;D But we slow people up here in the cold north, are the same, it's not unusual to have your sex debut at the age of 15-16 here either. Sweden is quite open about sex. It's nothing that shows in public of course, but we don't have double standards of moral. All kids know at an early age, how babies are made and the sexual education starts quite early in the schools. But as I've said before, we don't have more teenage pregnancies than other western countries.

elven dreamer, thanks for the link. This site has the clearest definitions for each category that I have seen. Like you, I never knew many of the categories existed.

Well you should have seen me trying to explain the difference in citrus to my husband. I made some kind of, well they need a lemon warning on that scene, comment while we were watching a movie. For days I was trying to explain this to him. It has been a prime source of amusement on his part from comments when I am writing, to snide fruity references when we are in public.
Personally I don't mind them one way or another as long as they are well done and arn't just thrown in there for some sort of because author thinks these two, three or who ever should have sex. Personally i know someone that wrote a perfectly sweet scene that will never see the light of day because she dosn't want any one to think she writes like that. Which for me is a shame. As I think any good well written stuff should be available for fans such as myself to read. Of course this could be a reaction to wading through PoT fan fic for a week and finding 2 good fics to show for it.
Trying to hide sex is just as stupid as blatanly throwing it in your face all the time it isn't as if most of us that arn't hormonal teens care that much anyway. People that want to find a refrence will and those of us that dons't will ignore it if possible. I just like to have my fic labeled so I don't get broadsided by a pairing I really don't want to think about.

coming from a place (out in the far east) where things tend to be a bit repressed or maybe less open...and unfortunately some things are even considered illegal where i am from...but i love my lime, lemon or whatnot...(and perhaps being somewhat of an 'ol biddie' myself) i may be more accepting of a lot of things than the average person in the street who lives around here. and if it is well written why not. the world would be less a colourful place would it not? and besides a good dose of vitamin C is good for everybody!!!
